Position Summary
The Registered Professional Nurse provides clinical nursing care and education to eligible patients. The Registered Professional Nurse works closely with nursing staff, clinician staff, the clinic manager, the clinic lead physician, administrative staff, patients and their families in providing professional nursing care. The Registered Professional Nurse may act as charge nurse in the absence of the Clinic Manager and reports to and is directly supervised by the assigned Clinic Manager.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Computer skills to include Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Windows.
- Basic Keyboarding skills.
- Experience with electronic practice management and health records.

Active throughout the 8-hour work day to include typical busy medical office/clinic demands, including walking, standing, sitting, reaching, typing, bending, talking, listening, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 20 pounds.

Duties/Responsibilities
Duties/Responsibilities
Clinical Nursing:
- Provides ongoing allergy desensitization care and immunizations to students and UGA faculty/staff.
- Evaluates prescribed plan of treatment and administers allergy injections to clinic patients.
- Documents administration of allergy injections including dosage adjustments, site rotation and any adverse effects.
- Communicates with referring providers to clarify orders and to convey patient response to injections.
- Provides early and appropriate care for emergencies following injections.
- Consults with a Medical Clinic physician and the referring physician as needed.
- Maintains proper handling, storage and shipping of extracts.
- Provides immunizations to patients for registration, routine preventive health or special needs by standing orders.
- Provides travel consultations and immunizations to international travelers in support of other nurses in the clinic.
- Performs and documents patient assessments, nursing interventions, and patient education.
- Coordinates follow-up of care, treatment, and services.
- Supports the work of other clinic team members including scheduling visits, billing, insurance verification, data entry, ordering and other clinic and Health Center functions.
- Provides patients with needed information about immunizations, treatments, and costs as indicated.

Patient Education:
- Provides individualized patient education including ongoing evaluation of patient understanding and compliance.
- Provides patients with information about diagnostic procedures, treatments, charges and other aspects of care.
- Contributes to development of new interventions, tools, and educational material.
- Collaborates with other UHC staff in meeting the educational needs of patients.

Leadership:
- Provides clinical direction to clinic assistants and administrative assistants.
- Collaborates with medical providers in directing patient care and outcomes.
- Supervises clinic operations and staff in the absence of the Clinic Manager.
- Resolves patient and family concerns and complaints.
- Participates in performance improvement initiatives and UHC campus outreach events.
- Holds self and others accountable for actions.
