Job Description
Under the supervision of Aquatic Administrators, a Water Fitness Instructor is responsible for teaching water fitness classes at city owned facilities, maintaining a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for class participants, and educating patrons on fitness and safety. Work includes: walking, standing, sitting, talking, hearing, grasping, reaching, balancing, stooping, bending, stretching, and swimming.
Examples of Duties

  • General knowledge of operational procedures of the Aquatic center.
  • Ability to instruct participants on effective workout methods, explaining and demonstrating proper techniques with enthusiastic and safe movements.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the musculoskeletal system.
  • Prepares workout, equipment, and music needed for each class.
  • Assists patrons, answers questions, and maintains a positive exercise experience for class participants.
  • Attends monthly meetings and informs Aquatic Administrators of pool activities and facility needs.
  • Ensures that safety standards are met, and that department and facility policies are adhered to.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Ability to take directions from Director/Asst. Director.

Qualifications
Special Requirement

  • Water Fitness Certification
  • Instructors must remain current/updated with Certifications
  • Candidate must be willing to obtain CPR/AED and First Aid

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Work typically involves the ability to physically perform the basic life operational functions of stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions. Work necessitates visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned. The employee is subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, oils, noise, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee is in contact with potentially infectious bodily fluids during the performance of duties such as when providing first aid care and facility cleaning. Working conditions include both inside and outside environmental conditions.

The City of Burlington does not offer benefits to part-time positions which require less than 1000 work hours per calendar year.
