Partner Software Architect

Governments around the world are passing new privacy legislation at a fast pace, and companies are investing in many aspects of data compliance to meet these new regulations. If you are looking for an opportunity to move the needle on data privacy, then the Microsoft Data Privacy and Platform team is the right place for you. We have been providing internal data privacy products for all of Microsoft since 2018, operating these products at high scale and availability. We build reliable, highly scalable, highly performing, and distributed systems for scanning, cataloging, classification, and Data Subject Request processing. Our job is to provide privacy infrastructure, to produce meaningful insights about compliance, and to create understandable actions that can be taken to improve. We are leveraging this experience to create new data privacy products to benefit Microsoft and all our customers. There is a steady stream of new requirements for both our internal and external partners that is creating exciting opportunities to work at high scale, impact, and visibility.

We are hiring a Partner Software Architect to help us design and build these new data privacy products. These products will provide customers with much needed assistance as they work to ensure their privacy compliance.

Qualifications:
Required / Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4 + years of experience driving technical architecture, dependencies and experience with distributed systems
  • 2+ years experience in people management

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred /Additional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 14+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience building privacy, compliance, or data governance informed software or services is a plus.
  • Experience building software / services with Microsoft Azure.
  • Awareness of emerging privacy and data governance related regulations

Software Engineering M7 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $198,400 – $323,500 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $218,800 – $357,100 per year.

Responsibilities:
We are looking for peoplewith experiences working with all service aspects of high throughput and multi-tenant services, ability to design complex extensible systems , and mentor and lead other software engineers on writ ing clean and well-factored code with good tests and good maintainability.

Responsibilities include:

  • Drive the technical direction for the Data Privacy o rganization .
  • Help ensure the right division between c ore and c ustom codebases .
  • Empower the org anization’s engineering teams with clear architectural principles and framing .
  • Work closely with their peers in related platform and application teams .
  • Help drive the correct technical division between platform and apps .
  • Work internally with architects across the company to ensure that Microsoft’s products can leverage our data privacy products .
  • Understand internal Microsoft privacy requirements so that these can be integrated into our product plans .
  • Evangelize our technical vision for Privacy at industry events, organizations, standard bodies, etc.
