Job Summary

The Payroll Compliance Analyst’s primary responsibility is to ensure adherence to all relevant payroll laws, regulations, and internal policies.

Hiring range: $65,500-75,500/year

Responsibilities

  1. Interpret and apply local, state, and federal government regulations in connection with payroll policies and procedures within the HRIS and timekeeping systems including payment processing, gross-to-net computation, garnishments, and non-resident alien taxation.
  2. Conduct regular audits and review of payroll processes to identify and address compliance gaps.
  3. Collaborate with HR and Accounting departments to ensure alignment of payroll practices with organization policies and legal requirements.
  4. Ensure accuracy of payroll processing including hours calculations, manual check calculations, adjustments, deductions, reimbursements, and void checks.
  5. Research to identify legislative updates and market trends impacting payroll compliance.
  6. Advise stakeholders of the trends and assist with risk/impact assessment.
  7. Ensure compliance and accuracy while maintaining up-to-date knowledge of tax issues related to Federal, State, and Local tax compliance.
  8. Prepare and file quarterly and year-end payroll taxes and multi-state filings.
  9. Reconcile, research, and respond to Federal, State, and Local tax agency notices working in tandem with our payroll provider.
  10. Generate payroll reports for management, highlighting key metrics, compliance indicators, and financial insights.
  11. Review and update payroll documentation to reflect changes in laws, regulations, and internal practices.
  12. Support timely resolution of complex issues/inquiries.
  13. Assist in preparing payroll-related reports for audits, tax filings and compliance reviews.
  14. Provide support and full back-up to Sr. Tax and Compliance Analyst and PR Specialist.

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Extensive experience in payroll with demonstrated problem solving, including research and analysis of compliance areas.
  • Advanced analytical skills and the ability to dive deep into details, while also seeing and understanding the big picture.
  • Expert MS Excel skills.
  • Ability to exercise discretion.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Strong work ethic and team player.
  • Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field preferred.
  • FPC designation preferred but not required.
  • Proven experience 2 years in payroll compliance, preferably in a non-profit organization.
