Overview
Under direction of the Director of Finance and Administration, the Payroll Manager monitors, controls, and audits all payroll transactions at McCormick Place/Wintrust Arena in Chicago, IL. This role ensures the efficient and effective operations of the organization’s payroll function in a multi-location, multi-state environment and international location(s)which includes exempt, non-exempt, and union employees.
This role will pay a salary of $75,000 to $1,000,000.

McCormick Place located in downtown Chicago is the largest and most flexible convention center in North America., With over 2.6 million square feet of exhibition space, the campus proudly hosts some of the world’s largest and most prestigious conventions, meetings, and trade shows, welcoming approximately 3 million visitors to Chicago every year.
Responsibilities
- Provide Customer service and Payrolls and Corporate Payrolls
- Act as a payroll liaison between Corporate Payroll and McCormick Place
- Resolves employee concerns in a timely manner by thoroughly researching and investigating the issue(s) and reporting back the findings to the employee or escalating to the Manager for resolution.
- Process multi-state bi-weekly payrolls for various entities and pay groups.
- Process employee timecard data using ABI and ADP
- Reviews payroll registers for assigned locations to ensure that all time entry data has been prepared for processing.
- Receives and enters adjustments to on-cycle payroll process for assigned locations.
- Validates and prepares off-cycle manual check requests to ensure that all employees receive any additional funds owed.
- Assist with uploading of files for new hires and employee changes using ADP and ABI Payroll Systems
- Process employee direct deposits and tax withholding changes.
- Process employee 401(k) and ESPP changes
- Maintains the accuracy and integrity of the payroll system by carefully reviewing all entries made and remaining aware of their impact on the payroll process.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding associates’ personal information and payroll data at all times.
- Create and audit reports required by local Collective Bargaining Agreements.
- Assist in evaluation of ADP EV6 Payroll System to determine changes necessary for better process flow.
- Assist in developing audit tools to clean up data while protecting the data integrity of the ADP EV5 Payroll System
- Assist in documenting all payroll processes and procedures.
- While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is continuously asked to multi-task under time limits. Position requires constant attention to precise details and accuracy of specified standards including following simple to complex (more than 3 steps) instructions, and concentration which frequently extends beyond 30 minutes at a time.
This position also requires constant use of interpersonal skills including, but not limited to ability to direct/motivate/inform staff and foster collaboration, ability to recognize and resolve conflicts, and ability to openly communicate verbally and in writing with clients and co-workers.
Qualifications
- 5 years minimum experience in a fast past, multi-state payroll environment
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or other related field
- Ability to review and audit Collective Bargaining agreements.
- Must be detail-oriented & strong leadership skills.
- Thorough knowledge & understanding of ADP Enterprise Payroll, ABI, and ADP eTime/TimeSaver.
- Proficient in Windows environment with strong Excel skills
- Must be accurate and efficient with ability to meet deadlines.
- Detail oriented.
- Capable of working with all levels of management.
