General Statement of the Job & Essential Functions
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under general supervision, this position assists with issuing permits for events using city property and rights-of-way. Reports to the Manager of Events.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Review event permits requests for conformance with city policies and regulations; oversee assignments of part-time event staff; communicates event permit requirements to event organizers; issue permits and inspects events to ensure that permit requirements are met.
Assists with establishing contacts and working relationships with all groups involved including community and citizen groups, city departments and leadership conferring with those involved to establish and agree upon specific logistical and technical requirements of permitting for events.
Coordinates with other divisions and/or external organizations relative to city permit process and regulatory requirements for events held on city property; creates and maintains accurate records; and answers inquiries received by telephone, email or mail correspondences.
Performs other related work as required. Individual assignments will be determined by supervisor based on current workload and department needs.

Knowledge of Job: Has general knowledge of city ordinances relating to municipal codes, special events management, and local government operations. Has general knowledge of city planning, codes compliance and related aspects of the city. Has general and practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the organization. Is able to provide direction and coordinate the work of subordinate employees and volunteers. Is able to use common office machines. Is able to compile technical information from a variety of sources and prepare clear and concise reports. Is able to explain rules, regulations and policies of the city regarding the permit process for special events.
Quality of Work: Maintains high standards of accuracy in exercising duties and responsibilities. Exercises immediate remedial action to correct any quality deficiencies that occur in areas of responsibility. Maintains high quality communication and interacts within department and division, and with co- workers and the general public.
Quantity of Work: Maintains effective and efficient output of all duties and responsibilities as described under “Essential Job Functions.”
Dependability: Assumes responsibility for doing assigned work and meeting deadlines. Completes assigned work on or before deadlines in accordance with directives, city policy, standards and prescribed procedures. Implements work activity in accordance with priorities and estimated schedules. Maintains a calendar for meetings, deadlines and events.
Safety and Housekeeping: Adheres to all safety and housekeeping standards established by the city and various regulatory agencies. Sees that the standards are not violated. Maintains a clean and orderly workplace.
Education, Experience & Special Requirements
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Recreation, Public Administration, Event Management or a related field, and 3-5 years of experience in recreation, permits review, city regulation interpretation, or event planning, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
“Assists with city produced special events”
An acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check and sex offender registry check.
A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIREDTO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines which include computer, adding machine, calculators, copiers, facsimile machines, telephones, etc. Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary Work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for periods of time.
Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.
Interpersonal Communications: Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions, assignments and/or directions to subordinates or assistants.
