Position Purpose
Our Physical Science Laboratory Technician assists the department chair and faculty with the laboratory portion of the chemistry and physics science courses and has a big impact on our student success. This position is responsible for the laboratories on the main campus (North Canton) and satellite locations (Akron).
Typical Hours of Work:
Typical hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Location: Main Campus (North Canton, Ohio) and Stark State Akron (Akron, Ohio)

If you have previous lab experience and enjoy coordinating and overseeing the daily operations of labs we want to hear from you. In addition to coordinating multiple things at once the right individual will be a great problem solver and able to provide solutions to problems that may arise.
Typical Responsibilities Include:
- Coordinate and oversee the daily operations of the assigned science laboratory facilities. Daily operations may include, but are not limited to setup, maintenance, and tear down of laboratory experiments, researching, ordering, receiving and storage of chemicals and equipment performing preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment and ensuring lab spaces are functional.
- Assist in maintaining all records regarding safety and daily laboratory operations (safety data sheets (SDS), student safety contracts, chain of custody of materials and records of laboratory waste disposal).
- Manage and coordinate ordering and delivery of equipment and supplies for laboratory courses delivered to various labs/areas.
- Make recommendations for modifying or updating laboratory materials as needed.
- Train and oversee laboratory workers in laboratory techniques.
- Provide technical support for college-wide initiatives that require the use of science laboratory facilities such as conferences (STEM fairs, Upward Bound Math and Science (UBMS), and Kids College)

- An associate’s degree in chemistry, physics or a closely related field is required.
- A minimum of 2 years full-time equivalent laboratory experience in chemistry, physics or closely related field is required (may be met with appropriate graduate lab research experience).
- A minimum of a basic knowledge of safety regulations and protocols such as OSHA, NIOSH, and NFPA.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in chemistry, physics or closely related filed is preferred, although not required.

Retirement Benefits
Ohio Public Employees Retirement System
The (OPERS), was established to provide a secure retirement for Ohio’s public employees and their families. OPERS is available to all staff Members. The College contributes 14% of the employees’ wages for the retirement benefit and the employee contributes 10%.
State Teachers Retirement System
The (STRS), was established to provide a secure retirement for Ohio’s public educators. STRS is available to all faculty members. The College contributes 14% of the employees’ wages for the retirement benefit and the employee contributes 14% of their wages toward the retirement benefit.
