While attending the Police Academy, Cadets will make 58,000 a year, until the completion of the Police Academy.

Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to prepare a non-certified applicant (Police Cadet) to receive the necessary training and education through The Law Enforcement Basic Recruit Training (Police Academy) to become a prospective Police Officer. The Police Academy prepares the cadet to become an entry-level law enforcement officer in the State of Florida. Employees in this classification perform practical skills and simulated activities that complement the classroom instruction. This minimum standards program is regulated by the Florida statutes and is a highly structured and disciplined program. Upon successful completion of the Basic Training Program, a cadet is eligible to take the Florida Department of Law Enforcement State Officer Certification exam.

Examples of Duties

Cadets are to attend all required courses at the Police Academy. While at the Police Academy, Cadets are supervised by Academy Staff and required to perform any related duties the Academy deems necessary.

Minimum Training and Experience

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by completing and achieving passing scores on the Basic Abilities Test for Law Enforcement (BAT), passing a physical fitness ability test (Basic Motor Skills), Swim Test, and successful completion of background investigation. Please note, if you have an Associate’s Degree or higher, you do not need to take the Basic Abilities Test for Law Enforcement (BAT).
