Duties include advising the Police Chief, command staff, and departmental personnel on a variety of criminal law matters; reviewing and preparing policies, procedures, and training bulletins; advising on proper completion of police reports and filings of criminal cases, search and seizure issues, and civil service disciplinary matters; representing the Police Chief in civil service disciplinary hearings; reviewing and recommending appropriate actions regarding public information requests, subpoenas, and narcotic seizure and forfeiture cases; providing advice and assistance during critical incidents; training and updating personnel regarding new laws and recent court decisions; and reviewing and drafting legislation. A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and five years of professional legal experience required. Knowledge of Texas Civil Service law and experience in trial work, criminal prosecution, law enforcement, or police management experience or equivalent experience highly desirable. Must be a member of the State Bar of Texas. Duties involve access to sensitive Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS), which requires that a thorough background check be conducted. Candidates will be subject to a criminal history check. Must not have any criminal conviction above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor or any Class B misdemeanor within the past 10 years; other convictions may also be considered.

  • The maximum amount of hiring incentive that an individual employee may receive is $3,000.
