DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this classification is to maintain and repair pool equipment and related facilities.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs general maintenance and repair work on aquatics facilities, pools, pool equipment, grounds, and related facilities: performs routine and semi-skilled manual work involving building maintenance, mechanical, plumbing, custodial, or other maintenance projects.
  • Ensures that operation and maintenance of facilities, pools, equipment, and systems are in compliance with applicable laws, codes, regulations, and standards: conducts maintenance inspections of buildings, pools, equipment, grounds, and facilities to identify potential problems, unsafe conditions, and needed repairs; and initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.
  • Performs various tasks in the maintenance of pool water quality: identifies and maintains appropriate chemical levels; tests for ph and chlorine at regular intervals each day; checks pressure on pumps; adjusts chemical levels and pump pressure as needed; maintains filters and chlorinators; and maintains related logs and documentation.
  • Performs various facilities and equipment maintenance tasks; troubleshoots plumbing and electrical problems; installs and repairs plumbing fixtures; clears water lines and drains; installs and repairs electrical wires and components; replaces and repairs pumps, chemical controllers, filters, and a variety of pool equipment and parts such as, deck tiles, handrails, drains, etc.
  • Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment, and tools in operable condition: monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; inspects and tests machinery, equipment and parts for proper operation; checks and replaces fluids; greases equipment; makes adjustments, repairs or replacements as appropriate; and reports faulty equipment and problem situations.
  • Maintains inventories of supplies, forms, and equipment: ensures availability of adequate supplies to complete work activities; prepares purchase requisitions for needed materials, equipment, and supplies; and receives and distributes incoming supply shipments.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High school diploma or GED

Experience: Two years of experience in equipment maintenance and repair

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of methods, aquatic equipment and tools utilized for pool maintenance.
  • Familiarity with State, County and Department policies and procedures.
  • Basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical wiring and pool pump maintenance knowledge.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Mastery of pool systems operation and knowledge of chemical requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.

Licensing/Certification:

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.
  • Must possess and maintain a Certified Pool Operator’s Certification (CPO).

  • Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable.
  • Physical Abilities: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
  • Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, and depth. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
  • Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, fumes, hazardous materials, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, or water hazards.

This position requires staff call up in an emergency situation.
This position requires more than 50% travel from office to other locations.
