The Maryland National Capital Park & Planning Commission is one of the largest organizations servicing both Montgomery and Prince George’s counties. In both counties we manage the park systems, and in Prince George’s county we also develop the public’s recreation programs.

Under the Department of Parks & Recreation, the Facility Services Division (FSD) is the largest Division in Parks & Recreation. We provide high quality maintenance and maintenance support services for all of the parks and recreation facilities within Prince George’s County. We have six major work areas: Fleet Management, Buildings & Structures (Trade Shops), Horticulture & Forestry (Roads & Grounds), Major Maintenance & Inspection, Critical Projects (Aquatics, Sustainability, Heavy Equipment and ADA) and the Administration section.

Examples of Important Duties
This position is located in the Critical Projects section which consists of Aquatics, Sustainability, Heavy Equipment/Roads and Grounds and ADA. This person will lead, monitor the work of Pool Mechanic I & II’s, Trades Trainee and Park/General Maintenance Workers who support the trade and will also assist with day to day Aquatics Facility Maintenance Team operations throughout Prince George’s County to perform a full range of repair and maintenance of electrical and mechanical swimming pool equipment work of the highest complexity and variety. As a Pool Mechanic III, the incumbent will be responsible for: planning and leading crews, contracting out major repairs and overseeing the work of contractors to ensure that work activities are completed, troubleshoots mechanical systems abnormalities by using appropriate testing devices to locate malfunctions and resolve issues in a timely manner, performs administrative paperwork including performance evaluations and personnel forms and recordkeeping, purchasing and inventory, assists with supervision, operates vehicles and equipment, handles hazardous chemicals such as chlorine, bromine, muriatic acid, caustic soda and test kit materials for pool setups and follows safety procedures. Applies extensive knowledge of standard swimming pool mechanical practices and methods according to local/national electrical codes, and County Board of Health swimming pool regulations. The successful candidate will have experience with sand and regenerative filters, pool equipment & chemical controls. This individual will also be responsible for summer operations and winter shut down maintenance for outdoor swimming pools and preparing them for pre-opening inspections and facilitating minor repairs to the pump room systems and water slides. The incumbent will be responsible for installing gauges, plugs, strainer baskets, repairing/installing chlorinators and chemical feed tubing, re-installing deck equipment and managing, as well as performing winterization and de-winterization process. Receives EAM’s for pool mechanical repair projects; schedules repairs and preventative pool maintenance. Uses variety of manual and power tools to perform repairs or refers work to appropriate trades shop. Instructs pool staff and provide equipment, filtration and pool chemistry.

Salary Range $51,829.00- $91,792.00

Work Hours 6am- 2:45pm

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
  2. Six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in mechanical, electrical or plumbing repair, that includes two (2) years’ experience directing the activities of others.
  3. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total six (6) years.
  4. Valid Pool Operators License.
  5. Valid driver’s license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver’s license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee’s ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.
  6. Depending on area of assignment, a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements may be required.
  7. Pass Commission medical examination.
