Job Summary
Under general supervision, keep RTD facilities interiors and exteriors clean and orderly; perform a variety of custodial and minor building maintenance duties as assigned. Shift subject to change per requirements of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Shift subject to change per requirements of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified. - Clean interior of buildings.
- Sweep, scrub, wax, and polish concrete, linoleum, tile, and wood floors.
- Vacuum rugs and carpets in offices, shop buildings, recreation rooms, dining rooms, hallways, ramps, and stairways.
- Clean and dust walls, furniture, and woodwork. Electronic equipment such as computers, printers, and video monitors are not to be cleaned.
- Wash, scrub, disinfect restrooms, and replenish supplies.
- Clean windows, door glass, and drinking fountains.
- Clean and polish metal work such as door panels and hand railings.
- Maintain custodial closets and custodial storage areas in a neat and orderly fashion.
- Perform a variety of building maintenance tasks including moving furniture and equipment, replacing lights and air filters, assembling furniture, and minor repairs.
- Turn out lights, secure windows, and lock doors.
- Clean exterior of buildings.
- Clean passengers loading and waiting areas and amenities.
- Keep drive isles, walkways, passenger loading and waiting areas, trash, weed, brush and graffiti free (does not include tree trimming).
- Keep facilities and bus stop amenities such as shelters, sidewalks, trash cans, and benches clean and orderly.
- Pick up paper and other refuse on grounds.
- Empty and clean waste and recycling containers.
- Use of various tools to perform the foregoing including but not limited to:
- Blowers
- Weed eaters
- Brush trimmers
- Floor/ground Scrubbers
- Truck mounted and portable pressure washer with recovery units when required
18. Maintain equipment used in the course of work.
19. Report safety, sanitary, fire hazards, and necessary repairs.
20. Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- Acceptable standards for routine cleaning.
- Commercial cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment.
- Basic operation of work equipment and other cleaning equipment.
- General safety practices related to work.
- Proper use of cleaning tools, equipment, and supplies, including the use of various chemicals.
- Application and proper use of cleaning tools, equipment, and supplies.
Ability to:
- Use cleaning materials with skill and efficiency.
- Perform continuous physical effort, including frequent bending, walking, manipulation of and heavy lifting of equipment up to 25 pounds.
- Understand and follow a work schedule, and oral and written directions.
- Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and all staff.
- Ability to work irregular shifts.
- Maintain a positive and professional disposition, demeanor and attitude with all customers, co-workers, staff and supervisors at all times.
- Ability to work multiple tasks and meets deadlines.
- Report to work as required and on time.
Education, Training and Experience:
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above is:
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
At least six (6) months of prior demonstrated experience in custodial service.
Knowledge of general custodial service and cleaning procedures.
Minimum 21 years of age.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
A valid California Class C Driver License.
Experience in a public transit agency or governmental setting is preferred.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift weights up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this class. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is occasional exposed to hot, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level is moderately noisy.
