Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The KIPP Forward Post Secondary Support Fellow will share their first-hand knowledge and experience with our alumni and will be committed to walking alongside them as they pursue their respective journeys. The Post Secondary Support Fellow will manage and support a caseload of KIPP alumni through strategic outreach and frequent check-ins and will be responsible for tracking persistence and career readiness progress. This role is an exempt position and will report to the Director of Post Secondary Support. The Post Secondary Support Fellow is currently designated as a 2-year role, anticipating to begin on July 17, 2023 and ending on August 15, 2025.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Driving Results

  • Engage caseload of alumni and their families through strategic outreach efforts and meaningful conversations
  • Support alumni in reflecting on their passion, purpose, plan and assist them in creating short- and long-term goals
  • Assist alumni and families with interpreting and comparing financial aid packages offered by colleges and universities
  • Visit alumni on their college campuses as needed
  • Assist alumni with transferring schools when necessary
  • Provide career guidance and support for alumni seeking employment and/or workforce/trade opportunities
  • Identify community and school resources for students and assist them in accessing tutoring, internships, as well as financial and mental health supports on campus

Teamwork & Building Relationships

  • Maintain positive and encouraging relationships with alumni, and their families, that will help alumni meet their educational and personal goals
  • Maintain and develop positive relationships with college and university staff to better advise and support caseload
  • Collaborate with the KIPP Forward Post Secondary Team to execute team-level programming for alumni

Accountability

  • Track the matriculation and persistence of alumni on caseload at post-secondary institutions
  • Guide the career exploration and job seeking efforts of alumni on caseload
  • Maintain up to date contact information for caseload who have completed high school
  • Maintain regular contact with alumni via phone (calls and texts), email, and social events as determined by team contact and outreach goals and objectives
  • Maintain records and real-time data on alumni in Salesforce (ADB) for ongoing accountability of seasonal and end-of-year goals

Qualifications

  • Passion for education and strong commitment to KIPP DC’s and KIPP Forward’s mission
  • Bachelor’s degree (required)
  • General knowledge of FAFSA and financial aid processes for college (required)
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Flexibility and creativity
  • Ability to facilitate group workshops
  • Experience developing innovative strategies to meet challenges
  • Availability to travel as needed, using all modes of transportation (will include train, flight, and car travel)
  • Experience working in a college environment (preferred)
  • Knowledge of the DC Metro area (preferred)
  • Proven ability to collaborate and build relationships with stakeholders across functional and organizational lines
  • Outstanding project management skills, with an ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Strong analytical skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

KIPP DC offers an extremely competitive compensation and benefits package:

  • The anticipated starting salary for this position is $55,343-$63,540. At KIPP DC we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive. When determining salaries we look at benchmarks in the education and non-profit sector.
  • KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer paid benefits such as short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, and a membership to One Medical.
  • KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years.
  • Fellow-specific: Members of this cohort will receive ongoing, comprehensive professional development throughout the two-year role, including advising rotations across the high school and post secondary portions of the team. Successful completion of the fellowship also results in priority consideration for KIPP DC and KIPP Forward roles as available.
  • Currently, individuals in this role have up to 15 paid time off days, up to 10 paid sick days, and 12 paid holidays. This is subject to change and your exact schedule will be shared in your offer letter.
  • As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families, we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. This position will generally work independently and not regularly interface with students, families, or school teams. This position will primarily work from our headquarters office to maintain a connection to their colleagues and foster a sense of cross-functional collaboration. Because of the nature of this position’s work, this will allow for hybrid work. This role will have approximately 50% flexibility to work remotely.
