A Brief OverviewThis is an introductory level temporary position that will assist and support the Maintenance crew. The employee holding this position is expected to be working toward an education/career path related to boiler operations, process controls, heat distribution, or mechanical or electrical engineering. The position is responsible for performing a variety of manual tasks associated with the operation of the CHPP system maintenance. Assignments include assisting maintenance personnel in maintaining CHPP equipment and machinery through the completion of preventative and corrective maintenance work orders, cleaning, organizing inventory, and expediting duties in support of the CHPP operations. The position will normally work alongside a Maintenance crewmember.

Pay:

$25.09/hour

Responsibilities

What you will do

  • Perform labor related duties in support of the CHPP maintenance crews.
  • Maintain all areas of the plant by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning or painting.
  • Assist CHPP maintenance personnel in basic maintenance tasks under direction and supervision of a more experienced maintenance person.
  • Gain experience and qualifications to progress toward receiving certification(s) related to boiler operations, controls, or mechanical or electrical engineering.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test, random drug test thereafter in accordance with the published policy of Doyon Utilities.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Alaska. Must be eligible to work on a military installation in Alaska.
  • Eligibility to work on a military installation includes compliance with Department of Defense mandates with respect to employee background and health directives.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Hands on knowledge or interest about machines, installation and use of tools and mechanical fittings.
  • Career minded and committed to furthering their education both in the classroom and on the job.
  • Actively enrolled in a vocational or secondary education program or the desire to develop a career in the utility industry.
  • Commitment to working in a safe manner and ability to understand and adhere to utility safety policies.
  • Incumbent must be able to maintain a level of physical fitness to perform job duties.
  • Excellent work habits.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors.
  • Currently in pursuit of obtaining State of Alaska Boiler Operator certification, enrolled or will enroll in a vocational program related to the industry, or in pursuit of an electrical or mechanical engineering degree. Preferred
