Summary
The Power Portfolio Trader/Manager studies, evaluates, and develops energy trading strategies for each individual NYPA generator for the NYISO Day Ahead Market. The Power Portfolio Manager assembles and interprets large amounts of data to develop bidding strategy, assess market trends and generate detailed reports. The Power Portfolio Trader/Manager will coordinate the DAM bidding philosophy with the Real-Time desk so as to maximize the NYPA generator assets, while minimizing risk. #LI-VB1
Responsibilities
- Develop bid strategies related to short term energy trading on a daily basis including bidding New York Power Authority’s (NYPA’s) hydro and fossil generating units into the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) Day-Ahead and Capacity Markets to meet established revenue targets.
- Analyze and evaluate short-term energy transactions to ensure that all relevant aspects including energy price, transmission, counterparty, and contractual terms are favorable to and consistent with NYPA guidelines for risk management.
- Execution of strategy for the available generator capacity in the NYISO capacity auction market.
- Interface with Operations and Financial groups to ensure full asset revenue optimization.
- Assist Plant Personnel in analyzing outage durations and impacts of plant de-rates / forced outages to the Plant’s value in the energy and Installed Capacity markets.
- Manage NYPA trading tools as appropriate to reduce NYPA exposure to market volatility.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong understanding of the following:
- ISO Energy, TCC and Capacity Markets
- ISO transactions (offers and sales)
- Generating plant characteristics.
- Regional Transmission Organizations.
- Financials products available to the energy sector.
- Strong analytical and communication skills preferred.
- Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects with minimum supervision.
- Skilled at adapting and responding to changes in the market and to plant conditions.
- Basic knowledge of the natural gas and Oil industry; specifically, the purchasing, selling and delivery.
Education, Experience and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum of 5 years of ISO, energy commodities, energy market experience required
- Minimum of 2 years of energy trading experience is required.
