Description
Pomps Pond is open from Mid-June through late August. Under general direction of Recreation Director and Pomps Pond Director Lifeguards are responsible for overseeing the safety and wellbeing of program participants and pond patrons.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and oversee the safety of all Pomps Pond visitors including program participants and resident/ non-resident patrons.
- Assist with weekly swim testing for Recreation programs.
- Assist patrons renting kayaks, canoes & kayaks.
- Perform lifesaving and first aid duties to ensure patron and program participant safety at Pomps Pond.
- Administers CPR/ First Aid as necessary.
- Enforces all Pond rules and regulations pertaining to the health and safety of visitors, parents, and participants.
- Responsible for the care and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Applicants must be 16 years of age or older.
- Applicant must have a current lifeguard certification. (Andover Recreation does offer a Lifeguard course. The cost of the class will be reimbursed if the individual works a complete summer for Andover Recreation.)
- Certified in CPR/First Aid.
- Demonstrated experience with the general public and youth program participants.
- Strong leadership skills, sensitive, and responsible.
- Ability to establish an effective working relationship with parents, employees, and the public.
- Ability to be flexible and modify activities for children of all abilities.
- Ability to work outdoors in summer heat.
Supplemental Information
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
- Possession of a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.
- Identify and respond to hazards and traumatic events.
- Work with different age and skill levels.
- Assist in the case of an emergency.
- Must be able to work outside in extreme conditions (heat/noise, etc.).
- Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of patrons.
