The Preschool Aide assists with early childhood education and socialization skills for children 2-1/2 to 5 years old. Primary responsibilities include performing a variety of childcare related tasks of routine difficulty related to the City and County’s Recreation Services function and providing information and assistance to City and County staff and the public.
Please note: This is not a summer position There may not be a set schedule as this is a substitute position and will be filling in as needed. The schedule during the school year is 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m, including a monthly meeting from 4:00pm-5:30pm. Positions may be scheduled to work at both facilities: Paul Derda Recreation Center and Broomfield Community Center.

Essential Required Tasks/Examples of Duties

General Duties:

  • Assists in the planning and organizing of activities in the areas of crafts, sports, games, special events, and field trips.
  • Assists children in socialization and learning skills.
  • Monitors the safety of activities.
  • Assists in maintaining a controlled classroom environment.
  • Assist with daily paperwork, time-logs, and incident reports.
  • Assists supervisor with classes, workshops and activities for participants engaged in recreation programs.
  • Independently monitor class participants to ensure proper use of any equipment and proper technique.
  • Assists in maintaining the equipment to insure safety and cleanliness.
  • Assists in the compliance with State Child Care Licensing regulations under the direction of the supervisor.
  • Helps to provide a safe and creative learning environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Training – High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience– Three months experience in a structured Preschool or child care setting.

OR

Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the Necessary Applicant Traits.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: – Must be at least 18 years old. Must possess or obtain American Red Cross Standard First Aid Certification and CPR Certifications within 90 days of hire and maintain for continued employment.

New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: oral board, reference checks, background checks including local police check, child abuse and sex-offender registry check, CVSA/polygraph, and fingerprint checks through CBI/FBI. New hires must submit current immunization records and a medical statement by a licensed physician verifying good mental, physical and emotional health.

Working Conditions
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. The noise level in the environment is moderate to loud. Work is generally scheduled in advance with the program scheduled daily including morning, afternoon, evening and weekend hours. May also include weekends for training (CPR & First Aid, Early Childhood Education Classes and Enhancement programs). Work in the Recreation Division may require indoor and outdoor activities. Due to the nature of recreation activities, the full range of physical movements may be required in this position. The incumbent must also be alert to peripheral activities when using recreation equipment and therefore must have a full range of movement in the neck, back and shoulders. Such movements may include (but are not limited to) pushing, pulling, lifting, twisting and turning the upper body, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, balancing, crawling, reaching for objects, standing, walking, running, jumping, and swimming. As a result, the employee is exposed to a wide variety of potential safety hazards. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including summer sun and temperatures, which may exceed 100 degrees. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and taste or smell. Physical demands are described as medium (exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 10 lbs. force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision.
