This position is a part time, temporary non-benefited opportunity (up to 32 hours per week).

Vista Recreation is looking for dynamic individuals that are passionate about teaching preschool-age youth. It takes a special person to work with this age group. The ideal candidate will be mature, friendly, knowledgeable, team orientated, flexible and above all, have a fun, outgoing personality. Preschool is an important moment in a child’s life that establishes the foundation for future academic performance and character. We want teachers that will fulfill all of the hopes and aspirations that a child holds inside.

Depending on enrollment we need someone to work MWF from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm or 8:00 am to 3:45 pm.

Examples of Essential Functions

The teacher will be responsible the development of classroom activities that allow children to explore, manipulate and use, both in learning activities and imaginative play. Activities should fulfill a child’s potential development in the areas of social/emotional, and cognitive/intellectual (motor, language, readiness skills). Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills to meet with parents/guardians to discuss a child’s progress and future needs. Collaborate with other teachers and staff in the ongoing development of current and new preschool programs.

Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of training, education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position as described above. Minimum qualifications include at least 16 units of Early Childhood Education (ECE) courses and two (2) years of preschool classroom management experience. One year of experience may substitute for one unit of ECE coursework. A degree in child development or related field is preferred. The ideal candidate should be able to speak, read and write comprehensible English.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
A California Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record is required.
A CPR & First Aid certifications are preferred but not required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Teachers will primarily work inside a classroom with low “preschool” sized equipment. Therefore bending, stooping, leaning, kneeling, crouching and standing for extended periods of time is common. Teachers may work/supervise youth outside in various conditions. Teachers are also expected to clean their own room at the end of the day.

RETIREMENT CONTRIBUTION

Employee is required to contribute 7.5% of gross earnings to the MissionSquare Retirement Plan, which is offered in lieu of Social Security, OR Current CalPERS members will be required to contribute the full employee contribution of 8%.
