Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Prevention Network Coordinator is responsible for the Prevention Network’s general day-to-day activities, organization of the Prevention Network, and the Community Prevention Intervention Project’s objectives. The coordinator is responsible for leading the Prevention Network through the SPF stages: assessment, capacity building, planning, implementing, and evaluating activities associated with the Risk and Protective Factor priorities. The coordinator will guide the Prevention Network to develop and implement evidence-based culturally responsive prevention strategies that will lead to the long-term involvement of community institutions, organizations, and individuals in substance use prevention. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Recruit, build, and enhance the capacity of prevention & social service providers in Brooklyn
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with other stakeholders including; local elected officials, courts, and public health agencies
  • Identify funding opportunities to strengthen the capacity of social service providers
  • Plan and execute capacity-building and political advocacy trainings
  • Facilitate identified curricula and provide education to identified groups and/or individuals
  • Conduct ongoing research of issue priorities to inform campaign and organizing strategies
  • Conduct ongoing research on organizational issue priorities and develop an analysis of the local, state, and national landscape
  • Conduct regular assessments with social service providers to inform policy and campaign developments
  • Engage social service providers to identify key issues impacting the most vulnerable populations
  • Inform, execute, and evaluate campaign and organizing strategies to strengthen social services
  • Monitor, track, and report on the progress and execution of key grant deliverables
  • Ensure all necessary reporting requirements are completed and submitted
  • Track and develop periodic reports of key grant deliverables
  • Maintain proper records of event summary reports, developments of department goals and objectives, and provider network and individual social service assessments
  • Engage the Prevention Network participant base in community and organizing activities
  • Develop a plan to engage the participant base in key organizing activities
  • Develop logistics and mobilization plans to execute events and activities
  • Coordinate resource fairs during organizational mass base events
  • Prepare outreach materials, such as fliers, scripts, cards, and posters
  • Represent the Prevention Network at interagency and external events
  • Collaborate closely with the Prevention Network Parent Awareness Educator & Prevention Network Community Organizer
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Director

COMPETENCIES

  • Demonstrated experience working within the school system/school programs, non-profits, and/or social service settings required
  • Demonstrated experience working as an Organizer and/or in the public health sector preferred
  • Experience working in community-based prevention settings preferred
  • Ability to be responsive in a timely manner
  • Ability to teach professional development fundamentals to network participants
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable with work schedule as needed i.e., occasional evening/weekend
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet required deadlines

  • Ability to implement accountability structures and regular tracking of network outputs/outcomes
  • Proficiency in the Windows Operating System and MS Office Suite, specifically Word, and Excel; experience with web-based learning and reporting platforms i.e. (WITNYS) Web Infrastructure for Technology (New York) Services

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • 1-3 years of years of direct experience working within the school system/school programs, non-profits, and/or social service settings
