Job Summary

Work schedule:
Tuesday – Saturday, 6:30am – 3:00pm or Sunday – Thursday, 6:30am-3:00pm

We are seeking a Primate Technician 1 for our Safety Assessment site located in LaBelle, Florida. The Primate Technician 1 is a member of the husbandry team responsible for providing care for NHPs on behalf of, or for sale to, customers. As the Primate Technician 1, you will be responsible for monitoring animal behavior and physical attributes to ensure animal health and welfare, for routine laboratory animal care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cares for the animals used in research and development studies.
  • Performs duties related to the maintenance of experimental animals such as feeding and caring for animals, cleaning cages, holding animals for treatment by laboratory technician or maintaining inventory and animal identification records.
  • Performs cleaning/sanitation of animal facility and equipment.
  • Responsible for bio-safety and bio-security of the animals.
  • May partner with pre-clinical investigators to assist and support veterinarians with surgery, dosing, post-op care and monitoring of animal studies.
  • Performs routine daily cleaning of animal rooms and cages; and husbandry duties as assigned.
  • Sanitize cages, primary enclosures, enrichment devices and other related equipment, as may be required.
  • Inspects feeding and watering devices for proper function.
  • Observes animals and report illnesses or behavioral abnormalities.
  • Administers veterinary treatments to laboratory animals and collects laboratory data.
  • Routinely handle animals as required for duties.
  • Maintain accurate records and uses equipment related to the collection of data.
  • Performs quarantine and isolation procedures as they relate to husbandry tasks.
  • Performs duties associated with the receipt, transfer and distribution of animals.
  • Learns proper techniques for and assists with TB testing and handling of non-human primates.
  • Complies with safety and report aspects of colony SOPs; as well as guidelines in the CRL Employee Handbook.

The starting pay for this position is $17.00 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.

Job Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.).
  • 1-4 years related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
  • Experience required in a role requiring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintaining records.
  • Dependable work history.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, and complete required documentation.
  • Good interpersonal skills that are conducive to effective communication and delegation and that contribute to a congenial work environment.
