Principal Accountant (Houston, TX)

About the Opportunity

Our client is looking for a Principal Accountant to join their Houston team. The Principal Accountant will assist in the month end close process to support the company`s entities by performing high level, complex financial and accounting assignments, and related analysis.

Salary: $106,300-$140,000

Please note this range is an estimate and actual pay may vary based on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a wide spectrum of financial and accounting assignments with minimal technical direction, including but not limited to:
  • Assists in the monthly accounting close process for various entities
  • Reviewing and understanding complex accounting transactions
  • Collaborates with other professionals within various departments (such as Tax, Business Planning, Financial Reporting, Auditing) to ensure accurate financial data is presented across the company.
  • Prepares and maintains appropriate documentation for SOX compliance. Prepare audit schedules, research historical accounting data and provide analytical data to assist internal and external auditors as appropriate
  • Design, systematize, implement, and maintain systems to provide visibility, control, and compliance with company policy, government regulations, and to minimize manual recording effort
  • Occasionally travels to San Diego will be required
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor`s Degree Accounting or Economics is required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred.
  • 8+ experience in both Public and professional accounting required.
  • Large company experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP
  • Ability to research and document technical accounting issues, proficient in the use of Excel, Word, and communicate complex accounting issues in a clear and concise manor to Sr. Management
  • Ability to identify issues, analyze data, develop, recommend, and implement solutions
  • Ability to process transactions in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ability to work independently and with moderate guidance from management is necessary.
  • Ability to switch quickly from one project to another when dictated by business needs.
  • Ability to identify process improvements.
  • Ability to put forth additional effort and work extra hours when critical projects arise.
  • Ability to effectively interact and communicate with others.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft AX is desirable.
