Position Description

We are looking for a Principal Accountant who will independently manage the Citywide Unemployment and Workers’ Compensation funds, as well as the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions of SHR and the Lease Query function.

Job Responsibilities

Here’s more about what you’ll be doing:

  • Approving journal entries for the other PCTF funds that the SHR Accounting team manages
  • Approving journal entries for the Accountant and Accounting Tech II
  • Managing the credit card program, travel desk, and auditing functions
  • Working closely with the Budget and Internal Rates Advisor
  • Acting as a lead for the team (with future supervisory responsibilities)

You will feel prepared to take on this role if you have a combination of the following experience:

  • Managing large funds
  • Acting as a team lead or supervisor
  • Auditing functions
  • PeopleSoft or other ERP system
  • Working in a public sector environment

Qualifications

In addition to the ability to perform the tasks described above, you will need to possess the below required qualifications (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field (requires satisfactory completion of at least 24 semester hours or 36 quarter credit units in accounting with no substitution allowed)
  • 4 years of professional experience in accounting, auditing, financial analysis, or related work (with one year experience equivalent to a Senior Accountant)

OR

  • Professional Certification as a CPA
  • 4 years of professional experience in accounting, auditing, financial analysis, or related work (with one year experience equivalent to a Senior Accountant)

OR

  • Associate degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field (requires satisfactory completion of at least 24 semester hours or 36 quarter credit units in accounting with no substitution allowed)
  • 5 years of professional experience in accounting, auditing, financial analysis, or related work (with one year experience equivalent to a Senior Accountant)

Additional Information

This overtime-eligible position is classified an Accountant, Principal and reports to the Business Operations Manager. The full pay range for this step-progression position is $45.68 – $53.20 per hour. New employees begin at Step 1 of the pay progression, which is $45.68 hourly. Current City employees starting rate of pay will be based on Personnel Rules regarding promotions.

The first round of interviews for this position are tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, August 29 and Wednesday, August 30, with the second round taking place on Thursday, September 7, 2023.

This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Employees will be expected to be in-office twice a week. Individual schedules will be based on agreement between the employee and their supervisor.
