Principal Android Engineer

Overview

Join our dynamic team of software engineers in building a world-class SaaS software product that is revolutionizing drone data collection and processing, delivering state-of-the-art mapping and analytics to thousands of customers worldwide.

You will work with our small, agile Berkeley R&D team to build a multi-tier, scalable, and highly automated workflow product that uses drones to capture imagery and video. Our software engineers provide a strong technical voice in the product development process and use the best tools available to design, develop, and deliver our high-quality automated product.

As a Principal Android Software Engineer, you will work with our cross-functional team of software engineers, product engineers, product managers, and release engineers. You will be actively involved in enhancing the ArcGIS Android app from feature inception to delivery, integrating bleeding edge Android and drone technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Android software for use in commercial drone flight app
  • Understand user requirements; design and develop API applications for Android devices that meet real-world scenarios
  • Work with design, test, and development teams to create easy-to-use and robust new features
  • Identify issues and improve code quality, including clear and meaningful documentation
  • Implement unit tests to ensure baseline quality in all releases

Requirements

  • 8+ years of commercial Android software development experience
  • At least one commercially available application on the Google Play Store
  • Excellent knowledge of Java or Kotlin
  • Strong math skills, especially related to trigonometry and geometry
  • Understanding of algorithms and design patterns
  • Experience with mobile software design patterns and resource limitations
  • Experience working with REST services and 3rd party SDK’s
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, GIS, or related field, or equivalent experience developing mobile apps or SDKs for 10+ years

Recommended Qualifications

  • Prior experience building spatial/mapping applications or software components
  • Experience with drone SDK integration
  • Experience with Android Jetpack and/or Android Architecture Components

Compensation decisions and the base range for this role take into account many factors including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

A reasonable estimate of the base salary range is $135,200.00 – $228,800.00.
