DESCRIPTION
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Incumbent serves as Principal Business Intelligence Specialist in Business Intelligence & Financial Reporting, a division of Business and Financial Services (BFS). For UC San Diego, this position develops highly complex and high visibility Oracle dashboards and reports for BFS division and campus wide usage. Recommends best practices for report development, maintenance, access, and catalog infrastructure. Evaluates data sources for relevance, integrity and accuracy. Identifies issues and collaborates on solutions to data management challenges.
Incumbent leads reporting subject matter expert workgroups to identify and understand reporting gaps. Gathers report development requirements from subject matters experts and proposes new report designs to best meet the needs of users. Assists with troubleshooting difficult report development issues and provides recommendations for improving report performance. While this position does not have direct supervisory duties, it does serve as an advisor and mentor to less experienced Oracle developers both on the BI & Financial Reporting team as well as on other BI teams across the university.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Proven experience in Oracle dashboard intelligence platforms (i.e., OTBI, BI Publisher, FRS), enterprise performance management software, and other analytical technologies.
- In-depth knowledge of business intelligence functions, advanced analytics, industry standards and best practices.
- Proven experience in information technologies, including high level of proficiency and understanding with data mapping, data mining and statistical software.
- Proven statistical and data analysis skills, including high proficiency and understanding with data mapping, data mining, and statistical software tools such as SPSS, SAS, R.
- Advanced knowledge and skill in internal databases, BI applications, tools, and systems.
- Extensive demonstrated experience mining data from multiple sources and databases using SQL, Access, pivot tables and other query tools.
- Advanced project management skills
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Annual Full Pay Range: $71,000 – $160,000 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $34.00 – $76.63
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
