Principal Cloud Network Engineer

As part of Microsoft Azure, the Azure Networking team designs and builds the network infrastructure that powers hundreds of thousands of servers in datacenters around the globe, providing network infrastructure services for Azure, Bing, and other Microsoft cloud services. In Azure Networking, we are at the very front of Cloud Computing by running one of the largest data center network infrastructures in the world. Our team is responsible for ensuring the reliability of these networks, even in the face of constant change. We rely on cutting edge network architecture and design for this purpose. We are looking for a Principal Cloud Network Engineer to design the next generation regional network to support the amazing growth of Azure.

Qualifications:
Required/MinimumQualifications:

  • 9+ years technical experience in network design for Data Center network or Wide Area Network
    • OR Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field AND 6+ years technical experience in network design
    • OR Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 4+ years technical experience in network design
    • OR Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in network design.
  • 9+ years experience on different networking technologies: network device hardware architecture, application-specific integrated circuit ( ASIC), optical technologies etc.
  • 5+ years experience on Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) (TCP/IP) and different routing protocols: Border Gateway Protocol ( BGP), Intermediate System to Intermediate System (ISIS), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), Segment Routing etc.
  • 5+ years experience on designing and executing network migration.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • Familiarity/hands on experience with any network device operating systems (Sonic, Arista, Cisco, Juniper).
  • Experience on large scale data mining and analysis.
  • Hold professional networking certification (example Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), Cisco Certified Design Expert (CCDE), Cisco Certified Architect (CCAr), Juniper Networks Certified Expert (JNCIE), etc…).

Software Engineering IC5 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 – $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 – $282,200 per year.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive the design creation for next generation regional network
  • Execute proof of concept and pilot for new network design
  • Work with different tooling teams to codify new network design for operation readiness
  • Create migration strategy to ensure smooth transition from current design to next generation design
  • Participate in “DevOps on call rotation” to troubleshoot and resolve production issues which serves a feedback loop to improve design
