The DSR Data Intelligence team has responsibility for providing data science and analytics services across all DSR. The team is made up of highly skilled data scientists & analysts, software engineers and security subject matter experts. Additionally, the team interacts with industry experts and maintains close ties with other Data Scientist and Analyst teams across Microsoft and the industries to compare and implement leading practices.

We are looking for a passionate Principal Data & Applied Scientist Manager to lead our “DSR AI Program”. This leader will architect, design, build and drive creative AI solutions to help Microsoft’s Digital Security & Resilience (DSR) Organizational on its mission to protect Microsoft. This candidate should have proven experience in leading data science and analytics teams and a demonstrated ability to translate complex problems into technical designs and solutions.

Qualifications:
Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 10+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR Master’s Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 7+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years people-management experience.
  • Experience in machine learning, natural language processing, and deep learning; and experience in Python, Pyspark, Azure SQL, and usage of Data Science related packages (Scikit-Learn, Pandas, Tensorflow/Pytorch, etc).

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • 2+ years experience in managing a high performing team that promotes collaboration and succeed in a matrix structure
  • Business domain expertise in digital security
  • Experience and knowledge of collaborating on code (e.g. git)
  • Be self-driven, and show ability to deliver on ambiguous projects with incomplete or dirty data

Data Science M5 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 – $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 – $282,200 per year.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing a team of Data Scientists responsible of empowering DSR to learn, share, experiment in developing AI applications effectively and responsibly.
  • Drive the DSR AI Program by implementing AI solutions for our internal services provided by Digital Security & Resilience (DSR) for engineering systems, processes, and services.
  • The team scope includes understanding, analyzing, design and build creative AI derived solutions to help Microsoft’s Digital Security Resilience (DSR) Organization goals.
