Principal Data Science Manager – Commercial Solution Areas

The Customer Solutions Area Team is creating and executing sales strategies across the Customer Solution Areas with field teams around the world to enable us to deliver on Microsoft’s Mission with our customers.

The Business Insights team partners closely with go-to-market (GTM) strategy, programs, enablement, global sales, engineering and field teams to generate business insights that influence the shape and direction of our business, sales strategy and accelerate the growth of our business. Our charter spans the breadth of the solution areas, where we design and deliver standardized views of business performance, pipeline health, build predictive analytics and propensity models, analyze productivity trends and competitive threats to surface key business insights.

We are looking for an experienced Principal Data Science Manager – Commercial Solution Areas to lead a team focused on building world-class insight capabilities for Modern Work, Security and Business Application solution areas. This role requires technical depth and experience leveraging statistics, data analysis, Artifical Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) & visualization to drive business insights that lead to action and successful business outcomes. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering deep analytical insights on the key drivers that drive business success.

Qualifications:
Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 10+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR Master’s Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 7+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years people-management experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience working in data science or finance at a technology company, across multiple industries (sales data preferred).
  • 3+ years of experience with large-scale project/program management including work prioritization, planning, and coordination in a complex matrix of internal, global stakeholders.
  • Experience in analyzing data and presenting results to senior business leaders.
  • Experience in the development of anomaly detection or multi-touch attribution.

Data Science M5 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 – $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 – $282,200 per year.

Responsibilities:
As a leader for the Business Insights team, you will lead a team of professionals to:

  • Learn and understand a broad range of data resources and know when, how, and which to use and which not to at any given time.
  • Design analytics solutions and reports to measure program impact, identify trends and anomalies, and influence program investments.
  • Own the delivery of the reporting and insights on a regular cadence to the stakeholders and senior leadership teams.
  • Understand and proactively communicate factors affecting business performance to stakeholders by partnering with business leaders, other analysts, and data engineering teams.
  • Ensuring insights are both actionable and measurable and you should be able to build these insights and hypothesis with awareness of practical implementation and implications for the business.
  • Partnering with cross-company data and analytics teams to ensure robust and accurate data capture and continuous improvement of data available for both analytics and the wider business.
  • Developing and defining analytical vision, strategy, and roadmap for the business area, coordinating with leaders to ensure alignment with business goals.
  • Be a “doer” as well as a leader – be a data and analytics expert that your team can turn to for inspiration and hands-on guidance.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with and influence Business Leadership teams to drive alignment.
    Establish complex problems and the associated data and give the answers in a concise form to assist the team in making key business decisions.
  • Build, motivate and manage a team of high performing individuals
    Produce insights and intelligence report on Modern Work, Security, and Business Application compete position that influences product and go-to-market decisions.
