The Messaging and Web Security Research team protects customers who use Outlook.com, Microsoft Defender for O365, Microsoft Edge, and much more. With an unparalleled view of the threat landscape, we develop deep expertise in attacker techniques and use that knowledge along with the latest technology to stop it.

We are looking for a Principal Group Applied Sciences Manager for our team. The Principal Group Applied Sciences Manager should have a deep understanding of what it means to run a large-scale, operational organization supporting millions of customers, and the accountability that comes with it. This team must balance the fast-paced demand of on-call responsibilities and constant adjustment to adversaries with product innovation, team career growth, and work life balance. A successful leader in this role balances these competing demands while fostering cross-organizational collaboration to build and deliver on the strategic vision for AI in the products and services you support. Qualifications:
Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience
    in shipping and supporting large-scale computing data science products, features, or content.
    • OR Master’s Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience in shipping and supporting large-scale computing data science products, features, or content.
    • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience in shipping and supporting large-scale computing data science products, features, or content.
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years experience in either: data science or fraud/security.
  • 1+ year people management experience with one year coaching other managers.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check – This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred:

  • 3+ years direct people management experience and multiple years coaching other managers.
  • 1+ year of experience in data science and fraud/security.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence organizational culture and attract and retain great people.
  • Experience translating complex business problems into prioritized, results-driven team objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive strategy alignment and impact through collaborative work across organizational boundaries.

Applied Sciences M5 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 – $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 – $282,200 per year.
