The Central Science Team within Amazon’s People Experience and Technology org (PXTCS) uses economics, behavioral science, statistics, machine learning, and design to proactively identify mechanisms and process improvements which simultaneously improve Amazon and the lives, well-being, and the value of work to Amazonians. We are an interdisciplinary team, which combines the talents of science, research, design and engineering to develop and deliver solutions that measurably achieve this goal.
Our team is looking for a Principal Human Centered Researcher that will own and define the research strategy to proactively identify improvements that positively impact our +1 million employees around the world. You will leverage your research expertise and applied experience to propose, execute, and deliver impactful research. You are proficient at investigating, understanding, and designing for both desirability (what the customer wants) and viability (what the business needs), to help shape and execute experiences for our Amazon employees.
In this role you will collaborate with business lines across Amazon, product organizations and executive leadership to identify and execute upon opportunities. You distill customer insights into actions for the business, and interact regularly with the executive leadership team and are the voice of the customer in the organization.

Key job responsibilities
- Create a deep understanding and empathy for our employees through mixed-methods research.
- Lead strategic research projects, driving actionable insights that result in impactful employee experience enhancements and are aligned to business goals.
- Define research strategy and lead research initiatives where the employee and business strategy has yet to be defined.
- Define business strategy by crafting the value proposition, business models and roadmaps, and inform long-term organizational strategy.
- Dive deep into both qualitative and quantitative data in order to bring forward actionable insights that generate innovations and help partner teams make informed decisions.
- Influence across business lines and organizations through fluid and effective communication with both senior executives and the team, striking a balance in tone and content to service multiple audiences.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of experience in the product development process (e.g. mixed-methods research, translation of research into insights, prototyping).
- 5+ years of defining business strategy (e.g. crafting of value proposition, business and operational models, pricing, roadmaps, and go to market strategy).
- 10+ years of applying systems thinking and shaping service strategy.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating past work experience and deliverables.
- A range of applied research experience with qualitative and quantitative methods.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills; the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters and/or PhD in Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Science, Business Administration, or similar.
- The ability to manage ambiguity, work autonomously, keep organized, and multitask in an agile environment.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $144,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $269,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
