Role description:
Arcadis seeks a Principal in Charge / Senior Project Manager with 10+ years’ experience, to join our Resilience Water team in the DC/MD metro area. This is a flexible hybrid “seller / doer” role to lead and direct the development of water, wastewater, and stormwater projects as a client-facing project manager and Principal in Charge. This role will report to the Mid-Atlantic Area Leader and actively participate as a key member of the Area Leadership Team. This position will engage with our established, well-respected team to execute our healthy project backlog and lead our strategy for growth across the DC/MD metro area.

Role accountabilities:
In this role you will lead and direct the development of water / wastewater and stormwater projects as a client-facing project manager, leveraging the candidate’s experience in water distribution system, wastewater collection system, stormwater management, pump / lift station, and water / wastewater treatment facility engineering including investigations, studies, analysis, designs, and construction administration services.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Manage the planning, design, and construction administration of projects to ensure compliance with contracts, drawings, specifications, codes, statutes, rules, and regulations, as well as Arcadis quality and safety practices.
- Communicate with clients, establishing goals and objectives for project teams, and scheduling and coordinating resources to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the performance expectations of the client.
- Provide technical expertise on multi-disciplined projects as a design leader, QA/QC reviewer or technical advisor.
- Supervise and support the work of others while mentoring junior level engineers and technical staff.
- Work directly with clients to determine needs and deliver solutions and lead the growth of client relationships with target clients including DC Water and WSSC as well as other regional utilities.
- Lead/Support teams in the marketing and proposal phases of projects including preparation of winning proposals and successful presentations, as well as developing scopes of work and budgets for various water, wastewater, and stormwater projects.
- Travel will be required for project site visits, client meetings, safety audits, general planning purposes or to oversee construction activities, depending on project staffing needs.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required Qualifications
- 10 or more years of water / wastewater and stormwater experience.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field of study.
- Project management experience including at least 5 years of demonstrated experience managing small to mid-sized, multi-disciplined, municipal water, wastewater, or stormwater projects with responsibilities similar to those described above.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License.
Key Skills and Abilities
- Client management skills, including preparation and development of proposals and client relationship building.
- Project leadership and management experience including demonstrated experience leading and managing small to mid-size, multi-disciplined, water, wastewater, or stormwater projects.
Preferred qualifications
- 15+ years of water / wastewater and stormwater experience at a comparable engineering firm.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License in Washington DC, Virginia, and Maryland
- Master’s in Engineering or related professional degree such as Master of Business Administration or Master of Public Administration.
- Successful record of managing client accounts, assisting in client development, and leading project pursuits and pursuit teams, in a collaborative fashion, on a variety of opportunities.
- Team leadership experience including managing overall project delivery expectations, prioritizing tasks, and mentoring.
- Active participation in regional and/or national professional association(s), industry activities, and conferences.

We offer seven paid holidays and potentially up to two floating holidays per calendar year depending on start date, and 20 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $124700 – $200,100 / year.
