Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; two years of experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, general maintenance/labor, or custodial work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Good oral/written communication, interpersonal and public relations skills needed; must possess or obtain within nine months of employment, a Registered Technician Pesticide License. Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview. Record must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within 30 days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
Duties
Bring your appreciation for working outdoors to the Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation Trails Crew. We are seeking motivated individuals, with a strong work ethic to join our team. Our parks maintenance staff work year-round with early hours and a strong benefits package. Perform grounds maintenance tasks including litter removal, mowing and repairs to fixtures; moderate construction, to include building and repair of bridges and boardwalks and other related tasks; operate various types of equipment to include skid steer, mini excavator, loader and various attachments for each; perform carpentry and use of various types of power tools; experience with chainsaw operation and proper techniques for felling trees; have knowledge of equipment maintenance; ability to lift 50 pounds or more. Perform other work as required. This position is a part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience.
