The Microsoft Strategic Missions and Technology (SMT) engineering team is looking for a Principal Network Engineer to drive customer onboarding to Azure Government classified cloud regions for authorized government agencies and industrial partners. You will focus on helping us ensure we have the platform capabilities our customers need to meet their mission objectives securely while leveraging world-class modern technology. In doing so, you enable the success of new and existing customers on Azure Government.
This is an exciting role with opportunities to drive industry impact. You will lead customer onboarding initiatives; build and leverage technical partnerships across Government and industry to unlock Azure Government cloud adoption; provide deep Azure architecture, build, and operations expertise to customers, and; work with Azure service teams to develop services, features, and market-specific solutions.

Qualifications:
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
- 9+ years technical experience in design, development, deployment, and automation of cloud or on-premises services.
- OR Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field AND 6+ years technical experience in design, development, deployment, and automation of cloud or on-premises services.
- OR Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 4+ years technical experience in design, development, deployment, and automation of cloud or on-premises services.
- OR Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in design, development, deployment, and automation of cloud or on-premises services.
- 2+ years of experience in cloud architecture, deployment, and/or operations for Government implementations.

Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of U.S citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local United States government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport, or other approved documents, or verified US government clearance.
- Candidates must have an active TS/SCI and be willing to upgrade to TS/SCI (with polygraph). This role will require candidates to maintain the TS/SCI (with polygraph) clearance. Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. Failure to maintain or obtain the appropriate clearance and/or customer screening requirements may result in employment action up to and including termination.
- This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications:
- Demonstrated judgement, decision-making skills, and the ability to work under continual deadline pressure when the situation is ambiguous.
- 15+ years technical experience in design, development, deployment, and automation of cloud or on-premises services.
- 5+ years of experience in cloud architecture, deployment, and/or operations for Government implementations.
Cloud Network Engineering IC5 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 – $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 – $282,200 per year.

Responsibilities:
- Meet with customers to identify and support their Azure Government cloud onboarding journey.
- Identify , prototype, evaluate, and standardize Azure Government onboarding patterns.
- Meet with government and partners to define customer needs, educate customers, identify new service demand, and unlock the government market to Azure.
- Align customer needs and Azure network capabilities through strategic intent and advocacy.
- Work closely with Atlanta, Redmond, and Reston based Azure engineering, operations teams and other internal Microsoft groups to drive capability developments and initial deployments.
- Work closely with program management, sales, and marketing teams to grow the Azure Government business, to understand the U.S. Government needs, remove adoption blockers and to ensure the smooth operations of running the day-to-day service.
