About The RoleWe are seeking a Principal Product Manager to lead SmartThings platform evolution by creating powerful new platform products and capabilities that will enable us to expand into new B2B verticals and create new business opportunities. You will play a key role in defining the strategic direction of our platform to meet the ever-changing needs of our diverse global customers and partners. This is a highly visible and critical role that will shape the future of our platform and business and impact millions of customers who rely on our platform every day.As a leader in our organization, you will collaborate with global executives and teammates across a range of functions from engineering to business development. Balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution, you will leverage a deep understanding of the platform as well as market, customer, and business needs to drive the platform towards success.

Key Responsibilities

Product Vision, Strategy and Roadmap

  • Drive the development of a comprehensive platform strategy and roadmap, aligned with our company vision and business objectives and informed by market insights and deep customer understanding
  • Establish shared vision across the company by building consensus on platform priorities leading to product execution
  • Define and prioritize platform product initiatives in partnership with global engineering, product and business teams, and executives to achieve strategic goals

Product Lifecycle Management

  • Oversee the product lifecycle, from discovery to launch and ongoing optimization, guiding development efforts with clear and detailed documentation as needed to deliver the right products at the right time
  • Drive direction with data-driven decisions through all stages of the product life cycle, from business case validation through iteration and improvement by incorporating user and market research, analytics, user feedback, etc.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and regularly monitor the success of the platform’s products and features

Stakeholder Communication and Alignment

  • Cultivate strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and ensure clear communication regarding platform capabilities, updates and strategic direction
  • Understand and incorporate requirements and feedback from internal and external stakeholders, including platform customers, developers, solutions & services product teams, business partners and executives

Leadership and Team Development

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to other members of the product team, fostering a strong product culture based on customer centricity, data-driven decision making, high ownership and empathy, strong collaboration, and continuous learning
  • Lead and bring clarity to cross-functional teams including product, engineering, business development, and marketing to ensure successful product development, launch, and adoption

What You Bring On Day One (Required Qualifications)

  • 12+ years in product management, engineering, or related fields
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and managing complex, at-scale platform products
  • Strong technical acumen and understanding of cloud platforms, APIs, and full-stack software development
  • Exceptional leadership and ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams
  • Masterful communication skills with the ability to convey ideas and information effectively across internal and external groups, at all levels of the organization
  • High emotional intelligence with the ability to lead by influence, navigate complex situations, resolve conflict, and build strong, high-trust relationships
  • Analytical with a strong commitment to customers, capable of leveraging data-driven insights to make informed product decisions and measure the success of platform features
  • Comfortable and open-minded in working in a fast-paced dynamic environment with rapidly changing requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field

Desired Skills

  • Passion for and understanding of smart home and IoT technologies
  • Software development background and hands-on experience with APIs and integrating third-party services and devices
  • Experience with Software as a Service (SaaS) or Platform as a Service (PaaS)
  • Experience working in Korean or other Asian business cultures
  • Strong business acumen with a solid understanding of B2B/B2C business models

Boston, Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Washington DC: $161,926 – $242,889
Chicago, Denver, Portland: $149,622 – $224,433
All other US metropolitan areas: $143,364 – $215,046
*These ranges may be higher or lower in other areas due to geographic differentials in the labor market.
