We’re looking for a Principal Project Manager – Traction Power to join our team to continue this progress and invite applications from candidates with:

  • At least 10 years of experience in railway traction electrification systems engineering
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the management and oversight of Design, Construction, Testing and Commissioning
  • Focus on client requirements including technical, schedule and budget
  • Capable of completing work in a controlled environment to meet budget and schedule requirements
  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree in a relatable subject
  • PE registration in the state of Washington is preferred

Salary Range: $127,000 – $177,000

Job Description

Our Rail Systems team in Seattle, WA is looking for a professional with at least 15 years of Rail Traction Power project experience. The Principal Project Manager will be responsible for Project, Design and Construction Management roles in the Seattle and Puget Sound area, and potentially across North America. The role will feature the following aspects:

Engineering aspects

  • Manage the technical delivery aspects of Traction Power and Overhead Contact System Design (traction electrification systems), from Concept Engineering through Final Design and to Design Support During Construction
  • Manage and oversee the delivery of Traction Power-related Construction Contracts, including traction power-specific and Overhead Contact Systems delivery
  • Oversee and lead the review of Designer’s and Constructor’s submittals for technical appropriateness, compliance with Owner’s requirements, constructability and maintainability
  • Provide expert assistance to Contractors during the installation phase, to optimize installation methods and deliver high-quality solutions; during the testing and commissioning phase to ensure progress to schedule and rigorous testing and recording of traction electrification system installation
  • Provide expert assistance to Contractors and Owners in the optimization of traction electrification system performance during the testing and operational phases
  • Oversee Contractor’s activities in the delivery of traction electrification systems, recording specification compliance, non-conformances and deviations
  • Provide technical and quality assurance oversight for traction electrification systems projects involving the delivery of new, and upgrade of existing network communications systems

Managerial aspects

  • Provide technical leadership through excellent example
  • Demonstrate innovation, collaboration, and decisive action. Particularly in terms of the relationships between Owner, Consultants (including Mott MacDonald), Designers and Contractors: Mott MacDonald’s approach is characterized by collaboration, common understanding and objectives and a supportive culture
  • Motivate teams to excel in technical delivery, on-time performance and development of positive Client relationships
  • Communicate effectively with Project Managers and Directors in the Owner’s organization and the Construction Contractor’s organization
  • Provide timely, accurate, comprehensive and concise reporting to the Owner’s and Mott MacDonald’s teams
  • Provide detailed analysis and solutions to emerging managerial and technical problems
  • Provide expertise in the preparation and production of contract documentation
  • Ensure a quality process is implemented for any design, upgrades, manufacturing, installation and/or testing & commissioning project phases
