Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in marketing and communications, parks and recreation, or a related field; three to five years of progressively responsible experience in recreation and parks, marketing, social media management, direction of marketing plans, and special events planning, to include one year of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must be willing to work outside of normal work hours, which may include evenings and weekends. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud applications desired. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview. Record must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within 30 days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required.
Duties
Serves as primary process owner/facilitator of department communications for all divisions of parks and recreation. Develops, plans, organizes, implements, evaluates and oversees a comprehensive marketing and communications program, including publications, website, marketing campaigns, media relations, promotions, public engagement, graphic design, and social media. Leads and implements needs assessment and strategic outreach across program areas, facilities, and services. Plans and directs the work of part-time and contractual staff including training, assigning work, evaluating work performance, and selecting new staff. Develops and implements strategies to promote public awareness of programs and facilities throughout County. Interfaces with a variety of community groups, volunteers, county employees, members of the media, the public and other agencies. Assesses monetary needs and assists in the preparation of the annual budget. Prepares a variety of written reports. Performs other work as required.
