Microsoft Sovereign Cloud Security group is looking for highly motivated candidates that can thrive in a non-traditional, agile environment at the cutting-edge of the security market. We are looking for an energetic hands-on Principal Software Engineering Manager to join a fast-paced team solving complex security and systems focused problems in the sovereign cloud security space. You will work closely with a distributed engineering team, product management, CXP (Customer Experience), and customers in addition to the central Azure organization leveraging the best platforms that Microsoft has to offer.
Join our group and help develop services with an emphasis on resiliency and performance using agile engineering methodologies. Our team continuously evaluates the effectiveness of our codebase in production through our live site activities. Responsibilities:
As a Principal Software Engineering Manager, you will lead, mentor, coach, and grow a team of diverse, talented engineers who are versed in delivering world-class services in high pressure situations. Effective collaboration skills will be required to work closely with other engineering and research teams to ensure services & systems are highly stable and performant and meet the expectations of internal and external customers .
This role requires a motivated self-starter who thrives in a fast paced, highly technical, constantly evolving environment. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated people management skills and exceptional customer focus . Y ou will be required to provide technical leadership and nurture a learn-it-all, curious, data-driven culture in a fast-paced high-pressure environment.
Participate in periodic on-call duties as Incident Manager to ensure 24×7 service health and reliability.
Qualifications:
Required/Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements
Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of U.S. citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local United States government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport.
- The successful candidate must have an active U.S. Government TS/SCI (Top Secret with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information) Clearance and be willing to upgrade to TS/SCI (with polygraph). Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. Failure to maintain or obtain the appropriate U.S. Government clearance and/or customer screening requirements may result in employment action up to and including termination.
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

- OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- 4+ years people management experience.
Software Engineering M5 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 – $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 – $282,200 per year.
