Role description:
Arcadis is looking for a Part-time as Needed Principal Stormwater Engineer with 10 or more years of experience to join our team in Richmond, VA!
Collaborating with our experienced Water Professionals, you will lead and drive development of stormwater projects, interact and work with clients, and develop your technical capabilities. Role accountabilities:
The Principal Stormwater Engineer will evaluate, plan, design, permit and lead management of projects for stormwater treatment and conveyance (pipelines, treatment, and pumping facilities).
In addition, this role may support professional engineering services during construction: construction observation, review of shop drawings, responses to request for information (RFIs) and permit closeouts
Additional responsibilities will include:
- Perform, set up, assemble data, and coordinate resources to complete hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and calculations for stormwater linear design, watershed models, natural systems and dams, and act as a stormwater resource for teams across the region and country.
- Lead sustainability and resilience projects with stormwater modeling, planning and design.
- Lead preparation of reports, presentations, and other audio-visual materials, and participate in client meetings.
- Ensure project compliance with all Arcadis practices and quality, health, and safety standards, and facilitate coordination for timely completion and submission of projects on time and budget.
- Work independently and as part of a team, with the flexibility to accommodate collaboration with team members across the country.
- Learn / use digital tools to enhance customer experience, team and client collaboration, and project delivery including configuration and deployment of SharePoint, Building Information Modeling (BIM), Power BI, and Augmented Reality.
- Travel may be required for project site visits, client meetings, safety audits, general planning purposes or to oversee construction activities, depending on project staffing needs.
- The is a PTAN position, which means the hours assigned will vary depending on the workload in the area. While there are weeks when a full-time inspector is needed, there will be weeks of down time when no work will be available. This is ideal for an individual looking for that level of flexibility.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required Qualifications
- 10 or more years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical or a related field of study.
- Professional Engineering (PE) License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in design or consulting engineering or Municipal work environment.
- Project leadership experience including managing overall project delivery expectations, prioritizing tasks, and mentoring.
- Prior construction observation experience.
- Client management experience, including preparation and development of proposals and client relationship building.
- Experience/training with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Virginia State Stormwater Certification.
- Master of Science/Engineering in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or a related field of study.

Arcadis offers benefits for part-time, as needed positions. These benefits include EAP, 401K, and optional well being benefits. The hourly range for this position is $55 – $80 / hour.
