Amazon Web Services (AWS) Hardware Engineering team creates compute and storage server designs for Amazon’s innovative web services. Our designs are industry-leading in performance, frugality and operational excellence, and are critical to the success of the AWS business and the more than one million customers who use AWS today. Our Hardware Engineers solve challenging technology problems, and build architecturally sound, high-quality server platforms and components to enable AWS to realize critical business strategies. We are seeking experienced Thermal Mechanical Program Managers to work on the next generation of our cloud platforms. Our success depends on our world-class server infrastructure; we’re handling massive scale and rapid integration of emergent technologies.
What you will do: As a member of the Server Hardware Engineering team you’ll be responsible for the design of our server platforms and AWS specific hardware components. You will interact with engineers across the company, and work with an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production including design, development, validation, and the successful implementation of your work at large scale. You’ll provide leadership in the application of new technologies to large scale server deployments in a continuous effort to deliver a world-class customer experience. This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position, and you’ll work with thought leaders in multiple technology areas. You’ll have high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you’ll be constantly looking for ways to improve your products performance, quality and cost. As a Principal Technical Program Manager you will lead the development of products utilizing a wide range of design and manufacturing partners. You will manage these supplier’s activities to design, test, certify, manufacture, and integrate parts into final product SKUs and then deploy them to data centers around the world. You will manage technology roadmaps and align the efforts of internal resources and vendors to deliver products that delight our customers.

Key job responsibilities
Develop strategic program plans and drive the delivery of physical hardware from prototype development to production at scale. Track performance of the hardware and drive improvement and remediation campaigns.
A day in the life
A Principal TPM works to coordinate technical output from our thermal mechanical design team and vendors to meet high profile goals. This TPM is also actively driving other parts of the AWS organization to develop process and support for our hardware.
About the team
The MTR team (Mechanical, Thermal, Robotics) is the team responsible for all mechanical and thermal design of servers and racks in AWS data centers.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
– 8+ years of technical product or program management experience
– 10+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience
– Experience managing technical programs across cross-functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
– Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related course of study
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
– Masters Degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant course of study.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $141,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $275,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
