Role description:

Arcadis is looking for a Principal Water Engineer/Planning Lead with 15 years of experience to join our growing Resilience Water Team in Los Angeles, CA!

This role will report to the California Area Leader and actively participate as a key member of the Area Leadership Team. This position will engage with our established, well-respected team to execute our healthy project backlog and lead our planning strategy for growth across California.

The Planning Lead will utilize their professional experience and technical knowledge of hydraulics, water distribution master planning, and computer modeling, combined with data analytics to manage design teams and developing innovative solutions throughout the region. This is an excellent opportunity with high potential for growth, including leading projects, mentoring junior staff, and developing project pursuits and opportunities.

Role accountabilities:

Utilizing expertise in all aspects of planning and developing water distribution system models and water system master plans to guide technical project teams. Additionally, this role will lead and direct pursuits and projects for water distribution hydraulics, water quality investigations, system planning, hydraulic and water quality model development, master plans, feasibility studies, and capital improvement plan development.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Project/task management and support in managing budgets and delivery schedules for each assignment.
  • Development of project/task scopes, schedules, and budget for new projects.
  • Develop and review technical reports for projects, including technical project report organization, authoring, and coordination.
  • Develop pursuit and client engagement plans for targeted proposals.
  • Provide technical expertise on existing and new design and water modeling projects and planning projects.
  • Develop and lead client presentations of work progress and collaboration across a wide range of client roles.
  • Lead pursuits through a strong understanding of business line and industry requirements.
  • Facilitate coordination for timely completion and submission of project deliverables.
  • Maintain and increase professional and technical knowledge by having regular participation with industry Association’s, attending workshops, making presentations, and reviewing professional publications.
  • Participation in water industry professional organizations, conferences, and networking events.
  • Assist with water conveyance systems and asset management data analytics.
  • Exercise independent judgment on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.
  • Ensures project compliance with all Arcadis’ practices and quality and safety standards.
  • Some travel will be required for project site visits and client meetings.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications

  • 15 years of experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field of study.
  • PE License in California.

Key Attributes

  • Deep understanding of water distribution modeling and master planning project development, project execution, and requirements.
  • Excellent technical writing skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 20 years of experience.
  • Master’s degree in Civil or Environment Engineering or related field of study.
  • Project delivery experience as a Planning / Technical Lead, with budgeting, schedule monitoring, client management and project controls.
  • Hydraulic modeling & engineering experience for evaluations, investigations, planning, feasibility studies and modeling of water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  • Project experience with GIS.
  • Hydraulic Modeling software experience, including the following software: InfoWater, WaterGEMS, EPANET.

The salary range for this position is $133,400 – $200,100 /year.
