Position Overview
Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering (KIWE) has an immediate opening for an Experienced Process Engineer in our growing Water Operations group based in Lone Tree, CO, with the opportunity for flexible work. You will be part of our growing Water Operations team that is developing water and wastewater infrastructure and industrial solutions that seamlessly transition from design plans to complete projects that exceed client expectations and further Kiewit’s legacy of excellence.
You will provide technical and process engineering support for treatment process evaluation, selection, design, optimization, and evaluation of plant operations associated with the permanent design activities of Kiewit teams and external partners on municipal and/or industrial water and wastewater design-build and/or EPC projects and pursuits. Our projects include chemical, physical, and/or biological treatment technologies such as coagulation/flocculation, filtration, UF/RO, chemical precipitation of metals, chemical oxidation, and reduction, oil/water separation, and biological/biosolids treatment (thermal hydrolysis, advanced anaerobic digestion, nutrient removal) as applicable in the municipal infrastructure, petroleum, chemical, power, and renewable gas markets. Project assignments range from support of proposals and estimates to technical design execution to construction and commissioning support projects. We are looking for ideal candidates to grow the Kiewit team by helping establish, maintain, and improve company standards and tools while also utilizing these standards and tools to contribute to project success.

Clients are turning to Kiewit during all stages of design-build projects to lead and manage multi-disciplined design teams to work together to improve schedule, track design progress, control costs and minimize risk. Through our integrated design and construction approach, our construction-focused engineers offering expertise in process design, mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil engineering analyze root causes and resolve design issues before they impact schedule and budget. We are a high-performing team of engineers and designers that leads the water engineering process and collaborates with Kiewit’s construction teams to approach construction-driven engineering with a focus on safe, cost-effective, and innovative designs, all working to develop the best possible delivery of water facility projects to our clients.

Responsibilities
• Evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria for water and wastewater projects of all sizes and levels of complexity.
• Provide technical and process engineering support for municipal and/or industrial water and wastewater facility design including treatment process evaluation, process selection, design and optimization and conduct evaluations of full-scale plant operations, pilot studies and bench studies as required. Identify and evaluate process lifecycle costs.
• Incorporate the requirements of the contract and customer Requests for Proposals (RFPs), professional service agreements, or other contractual requirements ensuring the projects meet or exceed project goals.
• Develop and review engineering reports, engineering drawings, and specifications for complex water/wastewater projects such as PFDs, P&ID’s, process simulations, datasheets, and engineering calculations including hydraulics and equipment sizing.
• Perform process systems and hydraulics modeling and scenario studies.
• Formulate and prepare technical specifications, perform bid evaluations of equipment and construction proposals, develop recommendations for equipment selection and contract award and prepare interface points with construction partners and equipment suppliers. Schedule, review, and coordinate design efforts with other project personnel.
• Oversight and/or direct performance of supplier shop drawing review, comment (and subsequent resolution), and approval and perform technical contract administration.
• Interface with partner engineers to support the project and business development needs. Work directly with partners on projects and tasks to develop long-term relationships.
• Participate in multiple projects simultaneously. Work within a multi-disciplinary team of engineers within a budget and schedule to execute design and engineering on projects.
• Communicate/present industry trends, competitive situations, or technology/regulatory issues.
• Support business development efforts and help in the pursuit of new projects. Contribute to the development of client proposals and project cost estimates.
• Actively participate in professional organizations. Prepare and make presentations to clients and professional organization meetings.
• Participate in improving company resources and tools to improve design production and efficiency.
• Mentor Kiewit’s entry-level engineers for skill development. Review their progress and results. Provide direction and coaching, as needed.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical, Mechanical, or Civil/Environmental Engineering
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in process development, conceptual and detailed design with a background in municipal and/or industrial water and wastewater.
• Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification required; Desire to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) registration in near future
• Understanding of federal, state and local regulations and requirements related to water treatment and discharge
• Must be willing and available to accommodate intermittent travel (10-20% expected)
• Preferred experience utilizing AFT Fathom or AFT Arrow hydraulic simulation software (or equivalent) and/or experience with process modeling and simulation software applications such as Biowin, GPS-X, Hysys and/or Aspen, WatPro, AqMB, SIMBA etc.

Base Compensation: $76,377 – $114,565
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
