Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Procurement Coordinator leads the procurement efforts for the Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS), including all of the Centers and Institutes under its umbrella. Especially given the diversity of research specialties within UMIACS, an experienced procurement professional is required to manage what is a substantial and complex procurement program. The incumbent develops and maintains relationships with individuals in diverse roles and at all levels both within and outside of the Institute.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
A bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
5 years of professional experience, with at least 2 in procurement or related work at the University of Maryland.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Must have superior organizational and task tracking and management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Must be able to thrive in a team environment and build effective and positive relationships with internal customers (UMIACS faculty, staff, students), central procurement professionals, and vendors.
- Must have a strong orientation toward customer service.
- Must be able to multitask and work in an environment that may include regular interruptions.
- Must have good judgement regarding documentation and audit considerations.
Preferences:
Preferences:
- Experience with ordering scientific and computing equipment is a plus.
- Thorough knowledge of sound business practices and campus procedures is highly preferred.

The University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS) is a large, interdisciplinary research institute where faculty use advanced computing techniques to tackle today’s most complicated and pressing societal problems. The UMIACS business staff is built to support our faculty as they propose and execute large, complex, interdisciplinary sponsored research projects. We have some of the most competent, experienced staff on campus and we function as a team in every sense, supporting, teaching, and helping each other on a daily basis.
