Nova Credit’s legal and compliance team is focused on helping Nova Credit grow while guiding the company through our legal, contractual, and regulatory obligations. As a company working in a highly regulated industry, the legal and compliance team is an essential part of Nova Credit’s business and strategy. You’ll work cross-functionally, be relied on for your legal and commercial acumen, and have broad exposure to Nova Credit’s business operations and product development process.
Nova Credit’s business is complex, and as a legal and compliance team member, you’ll be asked to help bring clarity to complex, multifaceted issues. WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH, YOU’LL
- Get to know the Nova organizational structure, key agreements, and legal processes
- Dive into our privacy program
- Understand our current product offerings and market positioning as well as how those products developed, legal involvement at various stages, and processes that may be led versus supported by legal team members
- Familiarize yourself with key regulatory frameworks
- Get to know the company’s working style, goals, mission, and values
- Get to know team members and key cross-functional stakeholders
WITHIN THE FIRST QUARTER, YOU’LL
- Dive deeper into current products, key regulatory and privacy risks features and risks, challenges, and areas for future development
- Work hand in hand with the product, data, and engineering teams on new feature and product development and positioning
- Review and develop a deep understanding of the company policies and procedures that affect customers
- Get to know the credit reporting and analysis industry, including bureaus, financial institutions, credit providers, and other fintech
- Analyze current contracts and advise businesses on product requirements and limitations
- Get to know the corporate organizational structure and work with key stakeholders on ongoing company organizational management projects
- Understand key vendor and supplier relationships and contracts and how they affect product structuring and development
- Negotiate and structure contracts with key suppliers
WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR, YOU’LL
- Become the key advisor on legal, regulatory, and privacy risks and issues associated with products and features
- Guide our product, engineering, and data teams on navigating credit reporting and other related regulatory frameworks and become a thought partner for new ideas related to our product strategies
- Help guide legal aspects of international expansion strategies and required licensing
- Advise on implications of data protection and transfer laws
- Coordinate and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent implementation of legal guidance and alignment on risk
- Analyze our legal processes, identify issues, and help the organization become more efficient
- Keep up on the industry and revise and update policies, forms, and agreements where necessary
- Work on cross-functional company initiatives and other special projects
- Help our go-to-market and marketing team with product positioning and completing regulatory or compliance reviews by customers
- Help us develop our legal organization as we expand into new regions
YOUR SKILLSET
- Experience working with product, data, and engineering teams in order to guide product development and assess risk for consumer-facing financial data products
- Understanding and familiarity with applicable regulatory and compliance frameworks, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Gramm-Leach-Bliley, and other federal and state financial regulations and requirements; experience implementing internal programs and policies
- Working knowledge of US privacy laws and requirements and hands-on experience implementing privacy programs at growing companies
- Exposure to foreign privacy regimes and the ability to get up to speed quickly
- Experience with international product expansion and adaptation
$170,000 – $225,000 a year
The base salary range for U.S.-based candidates and dependent on individual experience, skills, education, location, and qualifications.
