Overview
The Production Manager is responsible for the overall production activities and supplying all AV support at the Cox Business Convention Center. Coordinates all aspects of physical production of events, oversees the production staff team, in addition to performing various duties relating to the audio/visual systems and I.T. while always assuring excellence in production operations and in upkeep of production technology.
This role will pay a salary of $55,000 to $70,000

About the Venue
The Cox Business Convention Center (CBCC), located in the Arena District in downtown Tulsa, is a modern and award-winning venue providing over 275,000 square feet of flexible meeting space. Owned by the City of Tulsa for over 50 years, the CBCC has been host to every kind of event imaginable and proudly serves the citizens of Tulsa and guests from around the world.
Responsibilities
- Advances and coordinates production aspects of all venue events and activities.
- Support the Operations Department with technical needs during set-up and execution of events.
- Maintains files and records of all current and historic projects, productions and events.
- Hire, schedule, train, and coach all part time production staff
- Provides an advanced level of expertise in all aspects of technical theatre production including but not limited to lighting, audio, projections, rigging and flys, and scenic elements.
- Produces clean and presentable floor plans, layouts and light plots utilizing CAD technology.
- Meets and works with clients and prospects to determine needs, suggest methods, creates production budget for crew costs and rentals, and provide advice toward producing state of the art events within reasonable budgets.
- Negotiates for and procures production equipment and services from rental companies.
- Manages both IATSE and local crew members.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with production vendors and service providers.
- Manages the production department in a manner that reflects the highest standards of respect, professionalism and customer service.
- Helps formulate policies relating to production services and implements those policies.
- Demonstrates a talent for amicable problem solving and conflict resolution.
- Attends regular staff meetings and generally participates as a management team member.
- Serves as manager on duty for selected events.
- Provide excellent customer service assistance to internal and external clients.
- Support IT Department as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree related to Theatrical Production from an accredited institution.
- At least three to five (3-5+) years of relevant experience in a performing arts center environment, preferably in a convention center, performing arts facility or other multi-purpose assembly facility.
- Five (5+) years’ experience in Event Production.
- Three (3+) years’ experience in managing/leading of people and teams
- Experience working with both IATSE and local (non-union) crews.
- Extensive knowledge of all aspects of production technology, including demonstrable expertise in either sound reinforcement or performance lighting.
- Training or experience in Computer Aided Design, preferably on the Vectorworks and LightWright platforms.
- Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent people skills.
- A passion for the performing arts and the ability to provide excellence in their production.

Intellectual/Social demands:
- While performing duties of this job, the employee is frequently asked to multi-task under time constraints and in moderate to high pressure situations. Position requires constant attention to precise details and accuracy of specified standards including: following simple to complex (more than 3 steps) instructions and concentration which frequently extends beyond 30 minutes at a time. Employee will frequently be in leadership role which requires directing team members verbally and in writing via email, text or other typed directions to complete tasks in prescribed time frame. This position also requires frequent use of interpersonal skills including: ability to direct/motivate/inform staff and foster collaboration, being able to recognize and resolve conflicts, being able to openly communicate in writing and verbally with clients.
Physical demands:
- While performing duties of the job, the employee frequently lifts and moves facility equipment and tools. Employee will frequently move inside and outside various areas of the facility before, during and after events to interact with internal/external clients and supervise the work of employees. Position will require employee to occasionally bend, stoop, or crouch in order to evaluate and inspect equipment and building infrastructure. Employee will as needed operate high lift to assess and provide maintenance on equipment. Employee will occasionally be required to identify or match colors/tones of wires, cords or other equipment; as well as identify and hear pitch, tone and volume of audio recordings. Employee will constantly operate a computer, audio/visual equipment and other office devices such as calculators, telephones, copy machines and printers. Employee will constantly communicate via desk/cell phone, email and in-person with others and exchange accurate information. Employee will occasionally be required to lift up to 50 pounds as maintenance, operations or emergency situations arise.
Work environment:
- The duties of this position are performed primarily indoors and occasionally outdoors in the weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal to moderate during non-event days and when not operating equipment. Noise level is moderate to loud during event days and when equipment is in operation. Position requires exposure to large crowds of thousands of people and live music. Availability to answer questions or provide direction via cell phone & text is required. Position requires long periods sitting, working with a computer.
