Where you will work:
The Northwest District is located along the Gulf Coast. We proudly serve 16 counties in the Florida panhandle including Bay, Calhoun, Escambia, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Wakulla, Walton and Washington. This district has three offices located in Pensacola, Panama City and Tallahassee. This position is located in our main Pensacola office.

Pay:
Annual salary based on experience – $63,000.00 – $65,000.00
Your Specific Responsibilities:
- Serves as senior engineering support for the Wastewater Permitting section (domestic and industrial).
- Mentor engineer and environmental specialists reviewing wastewater applications and reports.
- Reviews engineering and geological plans and reports, specifications, permit applications, and supporting data relative to the construction and operation of wastewater treatment plants, the construction of wastewater collection, and transmission systems submitted by professional engineers;
- These reviews consist of evaluation of adequacy and applicability of proposed wastewater treatment systems operation, facility modifications or permit renewals to ensure that the facilities perform the required treatment functions, and the permit includes all required conditions, specifically those related to NPDES delegation,
- The reviews evaluate good engineering practice, design, and conformance with State and NPDES requirements including recommendations for approval, denial, or design changes.
- Incumbent must be a licensed professional engineer with the state of Florida, as permit approvals and denials require the seal of a professional engineer.
- Integrates wastewater permitting with program compliance and enforcement activities.
- Provides technical assistance to compliance and enforcement staff during the compliance inspection process or in development and pursuit of enforcement cases.
- Provides expert witness testimony as required.
- Evaluates and interprets proposed wastewater guidelines and rules; provides technical advice to the District and Department relative to Impact of proposed rules on pollution prevention and water quality standards.
- Provides technical assistance and advice to consulting engineers, applicants, and others as necessary regarding project conformance with technical design criteria, treatment standards effluent limitations and all applicable State requirements.
- Performs inspections of wastewater facilities and conducts site inspections of new facilities, as necessary.
- Reviews complaints (When requested by compliance and enforcement staff) and written and verbal inquiries and requests for information from the public regarding wastewater facilities utilizing engineering knowledge and technical skills to determine a course of action necessary to remedy problems.
- Performs related duties as required, including the conducting of meetings, data management, record keeping and streamlining of office procedures and document production.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Driver’s License
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in the field of engineering
- State of Florida Professional Engineer’s License
- Travel
