Job Title: Professional Scout Department: Player Personnel Reports To: Director, Player Personnel Status: Exempt
Primary Objective: Responsible forproviding evaluations, support, and assistance to the Director of Player Personnel across all areas of professional baseball. Must be available to start by January 15, 2024.
Essential Functions:
- Evaluate players at varying levels of professional baseball.
- Maintain working knowledge of Mariners systems, processes, and philosophies.
- Proactively communicate preferences, ideas, and high-level takeaways throughout the department.
- Provide recommendations in all forms of player acquisition, including but not limited to trades, waiver claims, free agency (Major League/Minor League), Rule 5 Draft, Rule 4 Draft (as assigned).
- Collaborate with Baseball Operations leadership in developing self-improvement plans in all areas, including goal-planning and regular reviews.
- Attend departmental and/or organizational meetings.
- Travel to represent the Mariners at assigned scouting events.
- Will perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Equivalent, relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education requirements, if approved by management.
- Previous work experience in professional sports preferred.
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):
- Committed professional with strong grasp of player evaluation.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, including, but not limited to: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- High-level communication skills (both written/verbal), organizational skills, and interpersonal skills.
- General knowledge of industry procedures and operations.
- Competent in all job-specific skills and knowledge, including, but not limited to: prompt and thorough completion of assignments/coverage, identification/correction of errors, strong attention to detail.

Physical Activities and Working Conditions:

The anticipated range of base compensation for this role is $55,000 – $100,000 per year.
