Description
Do you have a passion for supporting community arts? Are you highly organized and skilled in program management? Join the team at the Cary Arts Center as a Program Assistant II for Performing Arts! This position will play an integral role in coordinating and delivering outstanding performing arts programs for Cary citizens. The Program Assistant will provide administrative and programming support for the Performing Arts Program, requiring exceptional communication skills and detail-orientation.
The position is based at the Cary Arts Center with occasional work at pop-up locations, The Hive in western Cary, other town community centers, and the Downtown Cary Park.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Performing Arts Program Specialist.
This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year. Days and times may vary throughout the year but will average 10-15 hours per week. The position requires a flexible schedule which may include occasional evenings and weekends.
Typical Tasks
- Conducts administrative work to support Applause! Cary Youth Theatre and performing arts programs;
- Assists with audition coordination and script evaluation;
- Performs marketing tasks such as creating brochures, flyers, posters, etc.;
- Completes data entry and processing for program registration and attendance;
- Performs general office duties such as email communication, supply coordination, etc.;
- Communicates with staff, instructors, and the public regarding program offerings and updates;
- Assists with coordinating logistics of performing arts programs;
- Assists with special event and performing arts performance preparation and on-site support;
- Provides program support by assisting instructors and participants as needed;
- Performs other job-related tasks as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Requires general knowledge of theatre terminology and practices; general knowledge of standard office practices and procedures; strong organizational skills; skill in the operation of common office equipment, computers, and related software; ability to prioritize assignments and complete tasks accurately and in a timely manner; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships with others; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to acquire knowledge of Town of Cary policies, procedures, and the services of the department; ability to work independently; ability to interact with the public tactfully and constructively.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED.
Prefers some experience in theatre or dance programming or administration.
Language skills in addition to English a plus.
Conditions of Employment
Requires possession of a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
