Program Communications Specialist

The Beckman Center for Molecular and Genetic Medicine is seeking a Program Communications Specialist to design, create, and develop communication deliverables on projects that may include print, web, video, and television. The position reports to the CMGM Program and Events Manager and is responsible for assessing client communication needs, determining best delivery design specifications, and working closely with writers, editors, photographers, printers, and programmers as needed to complete projects for the overall support of the Beckman Center’s programs which includes the operation of four large service centers that provide Stanford researchers with access to advanced technologies and laboratory services on a fee-for-service basis.

This position builds, cultivates, and responds to a digital community on behalf of the Beckman Center. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational and problem-solving/analytical skills. May be responsible for leading other administrative staff or subordinates and overseeing the work of outside vendors and contractors.

Typical duties for these roles include:

  • Participate in the development of communication deliverables in an area of expertise for a program.
  • Develop communications of moderate complexity for various content delivery channels.
  • Produce materials according to defined requirements using software applications and mediums.
  • Work with vendors to obtain information to evaluate quality, process, and costs to support vendor selection.
  • Maintain knowledge by attending webinars, conferences, networking etc. to remain at the forefront of current industry standards, trends and technology.
  • May compile data, illustrations, photos, and pictures for assignments.
  • Work in collaboration with Institutional Communicators on media relations content and other areas.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficiency in Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Adobe Stock, Adobe Premiere, MailChimp, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Experience with graphic design, web design, and multi-channel communications, ideally in a university or research setting

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal communications groups across campus.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills.
  • Capacity to synthesize materials and communicate information in a manner easily understood.
  • Experience with managing projects to specifications and to meet expected deadlines.
  • Ability to perform detailed work with high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, speaking.
  • Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand.
  • Rarely sort/file paperwork.

The expected pay range for this position is $65,000 to $100,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
