NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
Salary Range
$75,900 – $125,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
What Your Job Will Be Like
Organization 03644, R&D/Mission Communications, is currently seeking a Program Communications Specialist to join their team!
The selected candidate will work with and advise program management and leadership, including executives, to determine specific communication needs. This includes message development and delivery, and how best to implement communications to targeted internal and/or external audiences. Successful candidates will contribute to and align program communication strategy and action plans with visions and goals.
On any given day, one may be called upon to:
- Develop and implement program-specific communication plans
- Develop a variety of program-specific communications materials such as speeches, transcripts, articles, presentations, and marketing collateral
- Research, write, design, and disseminate program-specific information for targeted internal and external audiences
- Work closely with Sandia’s Media Relations to develop communications to announce accomplishments and collaborations in news releases and articles
- Develop plans to build program exposure through outreach to targeted audiences
- Leverage trade shows and internal or external marketing activities to promote program initiatives
This position is eligible for telecommuting and the selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.
Qualifications We Require
- A Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Writing, English, or a relevant field, plus 5 years related experience; or equivalent experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job
- The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance
Qualifications We Desire
- A Master’s degree in Communication, Writing, English, or a relevant field
- Experience in writing, editing, oral communications, graphics design, audiovisual communication, public and government relations, photojournalism, and/or web design
- Experience developing strategic action plans, campaigns, and program-specific communications
- Knowledge of marketing fundamentals, including developing effective messaging for targeted audiences, product branding, and tactics
- A proven track record developing communication plans to support program objectives
- The ability to translate technical concepts and material into compelling and persuasive communications products
- The ability to work independently and lead integrated teams on complex problems
- Experience advising and consulting leadership
- The ability to work under broad direction to accomplish long-range goals
- Knowledge of Sandia’s publication policies, business practices, and procedures
- The ability to multi-task, set priorities, and deliver strong results
- The ability to model Sandia behaviors

Position Information
This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia’s discretion up to a maximum of seven years.
Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
