Position Summary & Duties Responsible

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Animal Care Services Engagement and Outreach Manager, the program facilitator will develop, promote and implement various community programming to enhance the quality of life for animals and residents of Bernalillo County. In addition, the program facilitator will assist with events, animal placement, animal and personnel training, and maintaining and editing Animal Care Services website and social media content.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develop, build, foster and maintain a national network of transfer partners to meet the need of facility animals.
  2. Monitors and tracks all animal intake at facility.
  3. Assists with implementation of Sheltering Section long and short-term goals and objectives.
  4. Involvement in behavior evaluations and behavior programming as assigned.
  5. May sit as a representative for the Animal Management Committee as assigned.
  6. Assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) relating to the rehoming and or transfer of animals.
  7. Responds to questions and resolving citizen or interest groups concerns in relation to placement, availability, or disposition of animals from the BCACS Resource Center. Serves as liaison between partner organizations and administration, staff, and volunteers.
  8. Coordinates with all sections relating to animal placement and rescue.
  9. Recommends animals for events.
  10. May refer animals to Program facilitator for fostering.
  11. Works with sections to ensure adequate assistance for transfer of animals.
  12. Adheres to the Five Freedoms and NM Sheltering Standards as well as all local and state codes relating to animal transfer.
  13. Assists the program facilitator for volunteers in the training of volunteers working in transfer programming.
  14. Assists with monitoring the health of facility animals to coordinate with veterinarian for medical care, health protocols and certifications necessary for the adoption, transfer, or transport of animals. Meets all in state and out of state requirements for transfer partners.
  15. Promotes humane awareness towards the care and treatment of animals.
  16. Follows the Five Freedoms and New Mexico Sheltering Standards.
  17. Provide staff and public information in the areas of animal adoption, rescue, placement and transfer.
  18. Maintain inventory of rescue and transfer equipment and request replacement when necessary.
  19. Maintains statistical data for all live release animals from Bernalillo County Animal Care and Resource Center, monitors and maintains statistical data of animals’ disposition, and placement including location and date of transfer and or adoption. Audits transfer partners for equality controls and best practices. Produces quarterly reports.
  20. Maintains the Adopt-a-Pet site for the Department.
  21. Monitors owner relinquishment requests and gives alternative education and resources to prevent intake of animals.
  22. Work with other sections to build positive relationships with local schools, businesses and community organizations to cultivate and establish an active network of animal placement opportunities, volunteers and community resources.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Associate degree in animal science, Business, Marketing, Communications or related field, plus three (3) years experience working in an animal shelter or humane society, customer service, public relations involving community outreach, placement or adoption programs for animals. Any equivalent combination related to education and/or experience may be considered for the above requirements.

  1. Experience working with volunteers in an animal-related capacity.
  2. Previous experience working with rescues or animal shelters, or animal transfer partners.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following:

  1. Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
  2. Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
  3. Employee must complete required FEMA training(s) as assigned to position.
  4. Employee must complete required Supervisor classes if applicable.
  5. Employee must have a valid New Mexico driver’s license by employment date and maintain a valid NM driver’s license while employed in this position.
  6. Shiftwork will be required, and schedules may vary to include extended hours and weekends.
  7. Must complete and maintain FEMA Emergency Management certifications required by the County and in accordance with BCACS.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Duties are performed primarily indoors, although the duties may be performed outdoors when transferring, supervising transfer operations, or working directly with animals. When duties are performed outdoors, a county vehicle may be used.
  2. Travel with overnights may be required.
  3. Indoor duties are performed in a temperature-controlled environment.
  4. Worker is exposed to natural weather conditions while performing outdoor duties.
  5. Indoor duties are performed in an office setting with carpeted or tiled floors, or in kennel environment.
  6. Outdoor duties are performed on surfaces which may be even or uneven, wet, or dry. Stairs may be required in performing indoor or outdoor duties. Outdoor duties may be performed on natural ground, asphalt, concrete, snow, ice, or mud.
  7. Work hazards or potential work hazards include use of vehicle, stairs, exposure to extreme weather conditions, driving in adverse weather conditions.
  8. Worker may be exposed to animals, aggressive animals, animal bites, disease, odors, animal dander, animal byproducts and chemicals.
  9. Worker performs duties alone or as part of a team.
  10. Worker is exposed to intermittent noise or vibration factors, particularly when driving County vehicle over unsurfaced roads.
  11. Worker may be required to be on-call as necessary, which may include evenings, weekends and holidays.

EQUIPMENT, TOOLS AND MATERIALS

  1. Equipment used in performing duties includes computer, multi-line telephone, two-way radio, facsimile (fax) machine, photocopy machine, animal handling equipment, cameras or video equipment, sound equipment, tents and computer printer.
  2. Handles a variety of forms and paperwork, writing utensils, and other basic office supplies while performing administrative duties.
  3. Animal equipment including handling, restraint, caging and other tools common to the industry.
  4. Operates a county vehicle as needed.
