Applicants should enjoy working with children and adults and have excellent customer service skills. These positions report to the Mather Sports Complex, a regional sports destination featuring athletic facilities for baseball, softball, soccer, basketball, racquetball, dance, and cardio and weight rooms.
Typical Schedule: This position requires a flexible schedule with typical shifts will be Monday-Friday from 3:30 p.m. or 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. or 10:00 p.m. This is a part-time position averaging 10-20 hours per week (not to exceed 1500 hours in a fiscal year: July 1 – June 30), although the number of hours is not set or guaranteed.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, able to work independently, and have strong customer service skills. The Program Facilitator is responsible for locking and arming the facility and must be comfortable working independently.
Class Summary
Working under the supervision of a Recreation Supervisor, a Program Facilitator works as a program lead for Pee Wee Sports classes that are normally Monday-Thursday start at 4 pm. This position also works as a customer service attendant at the Mather Sports Center. Front desk facilitator duties include but are not limited to checking in and greeting guest at the Mather Sports Center, registering patrons for programs and classes, and routine tasks of cleaning and maintaining District facilities while responding to patrons’ program needs. The Facilitator works closely with District staff, instructors, and patrons to ensure the best possible daily operation of Recreation activities.
Essential Functions
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices:
Front Desk Attendant:
- Overall facility management while on duty including, but not limited to, opening and closing facility, greet and assist the public in person or by phone, answering inquiries related to department services, programs, or operations.
- Performs basic clerical tasks such as printing forms, running daily reports, and filing documents.
- Establish and maintain customer accounts; accurately process point of-sale transactions, activity registrations, and facility reservations using recreation software.
- Count and verify cash drawers and run cash distribution reports.
- Maintains a thorough knowledge of programs at the Mather Sports Center; assists customers with registrations for classes, memberships, and other district offerings.
General:
- Enforces District and facility rules and procedures including, but not limited to, program rules, field/facility use, care of equipment, and admittance to facilities.
- Promote and enforce safety procedures; render first aid and CPR, if certified, as required.
- Uses strong customer service and interpersonal skills during public contact during the conduct of activities.
- Acts as Department representative to local residents, community groups, private businesses, and others concerning questions, problems, concerns, and activities in the provision of recreation programs and facility operations.
- Acts as a liaison between District staff and instructors for class material such as rosters and evaluation forms; relays feedback to Recreation Coordinator from participants and instructors regarding District activities.
- Sets up and arranges chairs, tables and other furniture according to arrangement charts and plans or verbal directions.
- Safely utilizes equipment such as audio/visual/sound systems, computers and printers, exercise and sports equipment as necessary for recreation programming.
- Locks and arms facility with correct and effective use of the intrusion alarm system.
- Performs light janitorial work before and after recreation programs and empties all trash receptacles and stocks restrooms as required.
- The Part-Time Program Facilitator may also perform other nonessential duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience: High School graduate or equivalent to a graduation from high school. Must be 18 years of age or older, have strong customer service skills, ability to multitask and perform duties of this classification.
Knowledge of: various recreation programs, including youth sports programs, in order to assist the general public with their questions; techniques, principles, and procedures of recreation programs and facilities; and rules and equipment utilized in athletic and recreational programs and activities and ensures safe and proper use of recreation facilities and equipment. Cash handling and basic computer knowledge and skills is highly desired.
Ability to: communicate tactfully with customers and address public and customer questions and concerns; respond to emergency situations in a calm and effective manner; administer first aid and CPR; effectively communicate orally and in writing with the ability to gather, analyze, and report information; set up various items of equipment and furniture for various events and classes; and clean and care of buildings and equipment. Must be trained and certified on concussion protocol.
Must be willing and able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Possession of First Aid/CPR/AED certification or obtain such within six months after employment.
Applicant must pass a criminal background check screening.

Sick Leave: All part-time and seasonal employees will be issued twenty-four (24) hours of sick leave upon their date of hire and reinstated every one year anniversary to be available for the following twelve months not to exceed a 24 hour cap.
